SOUL MART – The New Show By Former RWBY Animator

Rooster Teeth’s RWBY has had a varied reception throughout its run, balancing between high and low points. Originating as a web series chronicling teenagers at a school for monster hunting, it faltered in narrative development and overall visual quality. However, one of its standout aspects that contributed significantly to its popularity was the dynamic animation during battle sequences.

As Dillon Gu, I was thrilled to be one of the lead fight animators for season 3 of RWBY, a show that I’ve always admired. Ever since then, I’ve been sharing my own animated projects on my YouTube channel, “dillongoo”. Last year, in 2020, I teamed up with some incredibly talented artists and friends to form DillonGoo Studios. Now, our collective hard work has finally come to light as we unveil the trailer for our very own original show! The early feedback has been fantastic, and I couldn’t be more excited about what the future holds for us at DillonGoo Studios.

SOUL MART Is Proof That Small Shows Deserve More Attention!

Following the protagonist Kieru consuming from a tainted energy drink, a timer emerges on his neck. When this countdown hits zero, he succumbs to sleep and perishes. To break the curse and halt further distribution of demonic goods in convenience stores, Kieru makes a pact with a persistent demon pursuing him. Accompanying him is a fearful demon hunter who exhibits an unusual apprehension towards demons.

We’re creating a fresh, original anime titled “SOUL MART”! In this new series, a young man named Kieru is tasked with finding and stopping the distribution of cursed items that have mysteriously appeared in convenience stores. If he fails, he may never wake up again. Tune in to YouTube to follow Kieru’s journey and unravel the mystery behind SOUL MART! #SoulMart

The trailer effectively captures the essence and uncomplicated concept of the show. The animations appear sleek, meticulously crafted, and the colors are vivid. The bold color palette and neon-futuristic style give it a distinctive feel. The trailer suggests a “Shonen”-esque approach with action, adventure, and humor, although there’s no confirmed release date for “SOUL MART” yet.

It’s quite remarkable that despite numerous films and series being postponed or axed during production, we could be on the brink of a fresh era in entertainment. Smaller independent crews are producing Academy Award-winning productions such as Flow, leveraging open-source tools, and web series like The Amazing Digital Circus have garnered such popularity that they’ve found a place on platforms like Prime Video. Shows like this one truly warrant more recognition.
