As a long-time fan who’s grown up with the intricate worlds and challenging gameplay of FromSoftware, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension at the rumors of Sony potentially acquiring Kadokawa. If these talks lead to a deal, it could mean an even closer bond between my favorite gaming company and the creators of games like Dark Souls and Elden Ring.
It seems that Sony might be planning to broaden its collection of media content by potentially purchasing Kadokawa Corporation. This company is renowned for its diverse media assets, with FromSoftware being one of its most notable properties.
According to Reuters, Sony might be close to purchasing Kadokawa Corporation as they are currently in negotiations. If everything goes well, the contract is expected to be finalized within a few weeks.
Back in 2014, Kadokawa Corporation, a prominent Japanese media entity, took over FromSoftware. Apart from this gaming studio, Kadokawa owns numerous titles spanning books, anime, movies, and television series. This acquisition might imply that many of these works will now be part of Sony’s library.
As a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that FromSoftware has unveiled their Shadow of the Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring! The base game and the expansion have been met with widespread acclaim from both critics and players alike, earning high praises across the board. It’s no surprise that Elden Ring reached an impressive 25 million units sold by June 2024, while the expansion managed to shift a staggering five million units within mere days of its release!
It’s yet unclear if the discussions will result in a deal between Sony and Kadokawa. If such a takeover happens, it’s hard to predict the implications for future FromSoftware games, but it’s safe to say that platform exclusivity is a key concern among gamers. Stay tuned to our Sony page for updates as they come.
