A well-known source within Sony has hinted at significant reductions in the prices of both the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro during their annual Days of Play event. This move comes shortly after increases in cost due to Trump Administration tariffs, making this the first official price decrease for the PS5 Pro.
According to trusted source Billbil-Kun, who has a history of accurate leaks regarding PlayStation products and promotions, Sony plans to reveal price reductions on Wednesday, May 28, 2025. It’s also rumored that they will lower the cost of peripherals and hardware packages as well.
Sony set to announce PS5 discounts
Based on reports from an insider source, it appears there will be a reduction in the cost of the PS5 Pro model by approximately €100 throughout Europe. In contrast, the PS5 Pro will see a smaller price decrease of around €50. This change comes following the rise in console prices across Europe in April, which boosted the price of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition by €50.
According to the source, it’s alleged that Sony plans to launch a fresh lineup of Black Ops 6 bundles, which include both a console and a digital access code for the latest Call of Duty game. The Digital Bundle is reportedly priced at €449.99, while the standard console version is expected to retail at €499.99.
Furthermore, an insider disclosed that Sony is lowering the cost of the PSVR2 accessory by 50 euros, making it available for purchase at €399.99. Notably, they’re also reducing the price of a standard DualSense controller to €55.
Despite raising prices across its entire hardware range due to issues stemming from the global market, PlayStation is still providing some discounts as part of their yearly marketing campaign.
As a gamer, I’ve got to say, even I noticed that it’s not just Sony who’s been tweaking their console prices lately. Microsoft, too, has made some adjustments, bumping up the costs of the Xbox Series X and Series S consoles recently.
Currently, Nintendo is unique among console makers in not raising the cost of its hardware, specifically the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, which has maintained its original price tag of $449.99 despite a delay in pre-orders due to tariffs mentioned earlier. Contrastingly, the prices of accessories for this console have experienced an increase.
