According to their official announcement, SEGA unveiled Sonic Racing CrossWorlds, a peculiar kart racing game. Here’s what we know about it thus far!
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds: More Than Just A Racing Game
Could Sonic Racing CrossWorlds potentially outshine Mario Kart? That might seem unthinkable, but given the unique blend of racing, action, and exploration that Sonic Team promises, it could be a reality. This game isn’t just about racing; it’s an entirely new Sonic adventure that takes you through various worlds using portals. From breathtaking landscapes to challenging obstacle courses and encounters with sinister foes, each journey offers something different. Moreover, the routes themselves are designed to change dynamically, ensuring a fresh experience every time you play.
Full Control Over Your Machine!
As a gamer diving into CrossWorlds, I’m thrilled about the fresh twist in the Sonic Racing series – for the first time, I get to pick my own ride instead of sticking to one per character! It doesn’t stop there though; we can not only select pre-built vehicles, but we can also craft our very own!
The freedom doesn’t end at customizing performance parameters like speed, handling, and acceleration. We can tailor the kart to fit our unique playstyle. But that’s not all! The customization goes beyond function; we can personalize the look of our dream car too!
From tweaking the chassis to decorating the interior with a variety of stickers, and even painting it in every color under the sun – the possibilities are endless in CrossWorlds!
Moreover, there’s even more to look forward to: the game offers special items known as “gadgets,” which you can customize your characters with at the start of the game to give each race a distinct edge. As you progress through the game, you’ll have the chance to unlock additional slots and gadgets for even greater customization options.
A Fan Favorite Makes A Comeback
Instead of simply traveling on ground-bound wheels, you’re in for an exhilarating experience with the return of Extreme Gear from Sonic Riders! The footage that fans have already glimpsed is now official: You’ll be soaring through the skies on futuristic hoverboards. Sega is so excited about it that they’ve decided not to reveal these boards during the network test on PlayStation 5, keeping the feature a surprise until its release. Takashi Iizuka, Creative Officer of Sonic Team, expresses his enthusiasm by saying:
We implemented both the Extreme Gear from the ‘Sonic Riders’ series and the transformation feature from the ‘All-Stars Racing’ series, making this title a culmination of all previous ‘Sonic Racing’ games. I hope everyone has a lot of fun with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds.
Alongside the network playtest you can enroll in right here, that’s essentially all the formal details we possess. However, it’s the leak sources that expose the game’s true extent of eccentricity.
Sonic Racing CrossWorlds: Crossovers
It might sound unbelievable, but take it with a large dose of skepticism. Various rumors about potential guest characters for Sonic Racing CrossWorlds have been floating around Reddit. Some of these are debunked, while others gain credibility through gameplay footage and screenshots.
SpongeBob And Patrick
If you believe that’s the extent of it, you’d be mistaken. Already, we’ve got gameplay footage showing both characters and can even explore the entire Bikini Bottom map. Peering through the glass door of the Krusty Krab, it appears to be a beautifully chaotic scene.

Minecraft Steve & Alex
Indeed, it seems hard to believe, but there are images circulating on platform X that apparently depict both Alex and Steve riding Minecarts.
All done. Have fun, Sonic Twitter! #SonicRacingCrossWorlds

Avatar Aang
It’s incredibly strange to me, almost as if I might be in an alternate reality. Here, no actual gameplay was demonstrated, only concept art and a depiction of the glider, which is familiar to us from the popular animated show.
I GOT ONE MORE IN ME. #SonicRacingCrossWorlds

What do you think? Will you be picking up the game? Do you think it could beat Mario Kart?
