As a dedicated fan of the Sonic franchise, I can say with confidence that Jeff Fowler’s words about Big the Cat have left me eagerly anticipating what’s to come in future installments! Following the premiere of “Sonic 3“, director Jeff Fowler has expressed thoughts on the potential direction for the franchise. The movie series started in 2020 and quickly drew fans’ interest due to its compelling storyline. Since then, the Sonic universe has continued to grow and introduced popular characters like Knuckles, Doctor Eggman, among others, onto the big screen. However, one beloved character yet to appear in the films is Big the Cat. In a recent interview, Fowler talked about Big’s absence and his potential role in future Sonic 4 installments.

Jeff Fowler wants Big the Cat in Sonic 3 sequels

Jeff Fowler acknowledged that Big the Cat enjoys significant support within the Sonic fanbase and understands the potential impact his inclusion could have on the future of the franchise.

In conversation with Dexerto, Gopher Broke’s director expressed that there’s always humor surrounding Big the Cat. However, he didn’t reveal specific details about when or where, but acknowledged Big’s popularity and the potential impact on their movie world. He admitted that Big is loved by many, including himself.

However, he also expressed the persisting uncertainty regarding Big the Cat’s potential appearance in Sonic 4 and/or its future sequels. “But who knows when he’ll find his way to the big screen,” remarked Fowler.

In 1998, Big the Cat first appeared in Sonic Adventure, portraying a tranquil and meek character despite his imposing size. He shares his habitat with his companion, Froggy, near the Mystic Ruins. Despite Big the Cat’s significant role in the Sonic universe, filmmaker Fowler has opted for a unique method in the movie adaptations thus far. He prefers to select and emphasize specific themes from the games instead of strictly adapting the original content as it appears.

Currently, Paramount Pictures is working on Sonic 4 and plans to launch it in theaters in 2027. For now, fans can catch up with the most recent movie in the series, Sonic 3, which hit the big screen on December 20, 2024.
