In a chat with ComingSoon, actresses Sofia Carson and Connie Britton shared insights about their upcoming romantic comedy-drama film. They talked about collaborating with Sofia Carson, the movie’s exploration of relationships, and various other aspects. This Netflix production is set to premiere for streaming on March 28, 2025.
According to its summary, “The Life List” follows Alex Rose’s adventure as she fulfills her childhood dreams at her mother’s request, leading her on an emotional rollercoaster filled with laughter, tears, family mysteries, romantic encounters, and self-discovery, all starring Sofia Carson and Connie Britton.
Tyler Treese: Sofia, I found the movie’s approach to relationships quite commendable, as it showed a variety of relationships that didn’t turn out as expected without labeling any character as purely villainous. Instead, they were all depicted as complex individuals trying to navigate life and find their path. What stood out to you the most about how the film portrayed its relationships?
Sofia Carson: I found it wonderfully rejuvenating that the primary focus was on Alex’s relationship with her mother, rather than romantic relationships. However, when it comes to romantic relationships, your observation is quite accurate. Adam created these relationships thoughtfully, ensuring no character became the villain. Garrett wasn’t necessarily a villain; he just wasn’t suitable for Alex, but that was an essential part of her journey.
Later, the bond between Alex and Brad is exceptionally heartwarming due to their playful camaraderie evolving into a deep, enduring, and secure affection. And when you discover that Elizabeth orchestrated this all along, it adds an additional layer of depth to the revelation.
Connie, your character’s kind of playing 4D chess, with how she has this all planned out.
Connie Britton: Indeed, I gave it quite a bit of thought, such as wondering “How does she know?” It’s fascinating. However, I believe that mothers sense things. After all, as a mother, one can only aspire to know. Apologies for any confusion, what was your question?
Connie, your character’s demise occurs quite early in the movie, but the emotional scenes you shared with Sofia are incredibly potent. They create a strong connection that keeps viewers engaged with that relationship. Could you share some insights about collaborating with Sofia to ensure those initial moments had significant impact? Given that your character won’t appear physically beyond the videotapes for the remainder of the film, how did you both work to make those early moments truly resonate?
Britton: Well, I really attribute a lot of that to Sofia, and also to Adam, our director..
Carson: She’s being generous.
Britton clarified, it was an atmosphere brimming with warmth and readiness to delve deep into relationships. The film’s relationships were the crux, and despite limited screen time, they maximized every moment to engage in meaningful discussions among themselves.
I found out about Sofia’s mother, and she learned about me along with my son. We had a wonderful time together. However, Sofia is an extremely passionate, yet generous and open actress. So it turned out to be really enjoyable and engaging, if you know what I mean? It was fantastic, indeed. Yes, absolutely!
Sofia, it was truly a dream come true for me, having you portray a character who played basketball with Patrick Ewing in the movie. I’m still in awe about that experience – it feels almost unbelievable!
Me: Incredible! Who would’ve thought it’d be me, the one who stumbles more than a gazelle on ice, getting this opportunity? I’ve never even dribbled a basketball before, so you can imagine how jittery I was during that scene in the movie. It was Patrick, after all! I had a coach to help me out, but still, it felt like stepping onto a court with Michael Jordan himself!
Patrick guided me during the scene, and as I managed to score, it felt like a genuine burst of joy, and I believe deep-seated relief too. However, it was exceptionally meaningful.
Connie, if you had a bucket list for life, which is an interesting concept to me, could you share one thing that you’d like to achieve or experience on that list?
Britton: Well, let’s see. There are a few that I can remember from childhood.
I haven’t managed to achieve one long-standing goal from my childhood: becoming an archaeologist and exploring the Egyptian pyramids. That’s still a dream unfulfilled, so it would definitely be on my list today. Another desire I have is learning to surf. However, as of now, I haven’t had the chance to do that yet.
Carson: You would be so badass.
Britton: I’d be awful at it, really terrible. But man, wouldn’t it be great if I could surf? It would be such a thrilling sensation.
I’m grateful that both Sofia Carson and Connie Britton graciously shared their insights on Netflix’s The Life List. What a pleasure it was to hear their thoughts!
