Snow White Producer’s Son Blames Rachel Zegler for Box Office Bomb

Jonah Platt, the son of a Disney live-action Snow White producer, publicly criticized the film’s lead actress, Rachel Zegler, in a now-deleted Instagram post. He also attributed the movie’s underperformance at the box office to her. This came after his father, Marc Platt, faced backlash online following reports that he discussed studio worries about Zegler’s contentious social media posts with her.

Jonah Platt blasts Rachel Zegler for Snow White’s box office bomb

Just the other day, an article popped up on Variety about the rocky production of Disney’s live-action Snow White movie and its disappointing box office performance. The piece mentioned that Marc Platt, likely representing Disney, paid me a visit to discuss a post I made in support of Palestine back in August 2024. After another round of posts criticizing Donald Trump and his followers, he dropped by again.

Since the article came out, Marc’s actions have sparked quite a bit of conversation on social media. One person even took to Jonah Platt’s Instagram to call Marc “downright creepy” and accuse him of overstepping boundaries. This led Jonah to lash out at me in a now-deleted comment.

Jonah Platt began his extensive message by inquiring, “Is it really necessary for you to take this action?” He went on to explain, “Indeed, my father, a major Disney IP producer with significant financial stakes estimated at hundreds of millions of dollars, had to abandon his family and travel cross-country to reprimand a 20-year-old employee who brought her personal political views into the promotion of our movie, which she agreed to promote and do publicity for under a multi-million dollar contract.” This illustrates maturity and accountability. Jonah stated that Zegler’s actions significantly impacted the movie’s box office earnings negatively. He added that while free speech allows individuals to express themselves, it doesn’t grant them the freedom to say whatever they want without consequences in their professional roles. Jonah criticized Zegler for using the conversation for her personal whims instead of professional considerations, potentially putting tens of thousands of her coworkers at risk. He concluded by saying that narcissism should not be indulged or encouraged.

As a diehard movie enthusiast, I was there on March 21, 2025, eagerly anticipating Snow White’s grand premiere in our U.S. and Canadian theaters. However, to my disappointment, the opening weekend grossed only $42.2 million. It seems that this fairy tale princess didn’t quite captivate the hearts of audiences as much as expected, given the reported production budget of a staggering $240-270 million.
