In my eyes, Snoop Dogg remains astonishingly current and influential, shaping trends in ways that might even evade his notice. Pride could very well be part of his makeup, yet he also exudes a genuine kindness and eagerness to assist others. To me, this is the essence of living life to its fullest.
After receiving his star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame, Snoop said as part of his speech that he wanted to thank himself for his success. One could easily take that as a person with a super ego only caring about himself. Far from it. Snoop was thanking himself, as we all should do when we stick with something long enough to see the success or failure of our efforts.
This is where 17-year-old tennis phenom Mirra Andreeva enters the picture. After she won her first Masters 1000 event (if you know, you know) earlier in 2025, she thanked herself for having the belief that she could win. To be fair, if one does not believe in oneself, success is unlikely. Plus, no one is going to believe in us as much as we should believe in ourselves.
Tennis star Mirra Andreeva delivers a second shoutout to hip-hop icon Snoop Dogg
But Andreeva was not done with the Snoop Dogg homage. This week, the young Russian defeated WTA No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka in the final of the Masters 1000 BNP Paribas Open. The win will elevate Andreeva to No. 6 on the tour, and she is young enough to achieve a far higher goal. But just as she did after winning the Dubai Tennis Championships, Andreeva thanked herself after beating Sabalenka.
In other words, Snoop Dogg has created, quite accidentally, a cottage industry where athletes might begin thanking themselves for their own success. Again, there is nothing wrong with this. Maybe we should not think we are better than others generally, but we should always think we are worthy of good things.
Snoop Dogg has paved the path, and now Mirra Andreeva follows suit as the most recent to carry on the legacy of the iconic hip-hop artist. Let’s join in celebrating this inspiring journey!
