At the SNL50: The Anniversary Special event, actors Ryan Reynolds (known for playing Deadpool) and his spouse, Blake Lively from Gossip Girl, were among the famous attendees. During a particular segment, Reynolds made a joke about the ongoing lawsuit between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni, which appeared to catch his wife off guard.

Initially, Ryan Reynolds gestured by lifting his hand and spoke to the hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. He stated that he had a query. Upon inquiring about his well-being by the hosts, an apparently uneasy Reynolds replied, “Fine! Why? What’s the news?

next to Reynolds, Lively appeared taken aback by the exchange, but it’s hard to tell if this was part of what seems like an act or a script.
The conversation was centered around the ongoing dispute regarding the film titled “It Ends with Us,” which Lively and Baldoni collaborated on. In this production, Lively played the adult version of the main character, Lily Bloom, while also serving as its producer. Meanwhile, Baldoni took on the role of Ryle Kincaid, a complex figure involved in a difficult relationship with Lily. This film delves into challenging themes including domestic abuse and emotional torment.
In December 2024, Lively decided to take action against Baldoni by filing a complaint with the California Civil Rights Department, alleging sexual misconduct during filming. That same month, The New York Times ran an article titled ‘We Can Bury Anyone’: Inside a Hollywood Smear Machine. This article, based on documents submitted by Lively, suggested that according to a publicist who worked with Baldoni and crisis management expert Melissa Nathan, Baldoni had expressed a desire to “make it seem like she [Lively] could be discredited or harmed.
Later on, Baldoni initiated a lawsuit worth $250 million against The New York Times, while Lively took action against Baldoni. In January 2025, Baldoni decided to sue Lively, Reynolds, and their publicist, Leslie Sloan, for an amount of $400 million, alleging that the famous duo aimed to “bring about his downfall”.
