SNL 1975 Release Date & Title Change Confirmed for Jason Reitman Movie

As a lifelong fan who has spent countless hours laughing at the antics of Saturday Night Live (SNL) legends, I can hardly contain my excitement for Jason Reitman‘s upcoming film, now titled “Saturday Night.” The October 11, 2024 release date is a fitting tribute to the original airdate of the first SNL episode back in 1975.

The release date for Jason Reitman’s film about the iconic comedy series Saturday Night Live, first airing in 1975, has been disclosed, along with a new title for the movie.

The confirmed release date for Saturday Night (originally SNL from 1975) is set for October 11, 2024.

The 11th of October shares the same date as the initial airing of the very first episode of Saturday Night Live in 1975. The movie’s plot revolves around the events unfolding backstage during the 90 minutes prior to that broadcast. Director Reitman and actor Keenan have been interviewing everyone who was involved on that historic night, including surviving cast members, writers, and crew, to gain a clearer understanding of those moments.

Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan are penning and directing the film titled “Saturday Night.” They, along with Jason Blumenfeld, Erica Mills, Peter Rice, are serving as producers for this project.

As a longtime fan of both Saturday Night Live (SNL) and Ghostbusters, I was thrilled to learn that Reitman and Kenan collaborated on Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire earlier this year. The connection between the two is particularly exciting for me because of my personal history with these iconic franchises. Growing up in the 80s, I remember watching SNL sketches and laughing at the hilarious antics of Dan Aykroyd and Bill Murray, who later went on to star in the original Ghostbusters movie. The way they brought those characters to life was a pivotal moment for me as a young viewer, and it’s fascinating to see how their legacies continue to influence new generations through projects like Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. I eagerly await the release of this series and hope that it captures the magic of its predecessors while also offering something fresh and innovative for fans old and new.
