Smoke showrunner wants to do Season 2 and 3 for Apple TV+ series

In conversation with The Direct, the seasoned author shared his strategies for the forthcoming Apple TV+ series, disclosing his aim to conclude Smoke in Seasons 2 and 3.

When asked about his long-term intentions for the series, Lehane expressed his desire to complete it over the course of three seasons. However, whether Apple decides to continue for three seasons will depend on viewer turnout. Yet, he has a clear vision of how these three seasons will conclude. He may not always know the specific route to take, but he usually knows where he’s heading.

In this eagerly anticipated crime drama by Lehane, the story revolves around Taron Egerton’s character, Dave Gudsen, a seasoned arson investigator on a mission to capture two arsonists wreaking havoc in his town. Alongside Egerton, the series introduces Detective Michelle Calderon, portrayed by Jurnee Smollett, who becomes Gudsen’s new partner. John Leguizamo takes on the role of Dave’s former partner, Esposito, while Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine plays Freddy, a local outcast.

Besides discussing potential future seasons of Smoke, Lehane also shared insights into his creative philosophy, explaining, “I’ve always crafted characters based on their weaknesses rather than their strengths. Instead, I focus more on what makes them vulnerable or what makes them complicated, as I find flaws to be intriguing, and I find the ‘good guy in the white hat’ less captivating.

Smoke’s debut season will premiere on Apple TV+ on June 27, 2025.
