Jackbox Games is making it possible for you to host a party right on your smart TV! Thanks to cloud-based gaming, you’ll soon be able to play Jackbox’s popular and interactive games without the requirement of a console. A new app will provide a variety of free, ad-supported titles initially, with plans to expand into a full subscription service in the future. However, details about which games will debut first and how they will compare to traditional Jackbox packs are still being announced. Here’s what we know so far!
Jackbox Games Comes to Smart TVs
Jackbox Games has announced they’re leaping into the next phase with a brand-new smart TV app! Don’t worry if you don’t have a console, as cloud streaming lets you play their legendary party games directly on your television. All you need is your phone to act as a controller, and you’re ready to go. At first, there will be a limited assortment of free, ad-supported games available. However, the company plans to roll out a complete subscription service later, granting access to their entire game collection in the future.
The beta version is planned to launch on certain smart TVs in Spring 2025, marking the start of something bigger. If feedback is favorable, additional platforms and features may emerge, broadening the Jackbox experience beyond just TVs. With the help of AWS GameLift Streams, games will operate smoothly via the cloud without requiring extra equipment. However, the Jackbox team playfully hinted that while it might be possible to put the app on smartwatches, playing Fibbage on a small screen could be rather impractical.
What This Means for Players
As a longtime Jackbox fan, this is truly a game-changer – in the truest sense of the word. You no longer have to worry about console compatibility or extra downloads; everything you need is integrated into your TV. Whether you’re playing Quiplash, Fibbage, or another classic, the experience remains the same: chaotic, creative, and endlessly funny. Plus, shifting to cloud-based games means updates and new features could be available more frequently.
What’s uncertain at this moment is which games will be available when the platform launches. Although Jackbox hasn’t revealed specific titles yet, it’s plausible that well-known games such as The Jackbox Survey Scramble could be part of the lineup. With a subscription model in place, access to all Jackbox games might only be a few clicks away in the future. All that remains is preparing for more memorable gaming sessions – this time without requiring a console!
