As a gamer who has lived through multiple gaming generations, I’ve seen countless stories unfold across various mediums. Slumdog Millionaire was one of those rare cinematic experiences that transcended the screen and touched my heart. So when I heard whispers of a sequel, I couldn’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension.
Slumdog Millionaire 2 could be happening.
As a game enthusiast, I’d say I was captivated by the 2008 film masterfully crafted by Danny Boyle, titled Slumdog Millionaire. This cinematic gem, while loosely inspired by Vikas Swarup’s novel Q & A from 2005, tells a compelling story about Jamal Malik, brilliantly portrayed by Dev Patel. The film swept the Academy Awards, taking home prestigious awards such as Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Score, Best Original Song, and Best Sound Mixing. Quite an impressive haul!
According to reports, Bridge7 – the fresh production company launched by Variety, Swait Shetty, and Grant Kessman – has acquired the rights to produce a follow-up film to the successful movie “Slumdog Millionaire.
7Bridge reached an agreement with Celador, or CPL Productions, who were the ones behind the initial film production along with Film4. Additionally, 7Bridge now holds the television broadcasting rights for Slumdog Millionaire.
In their statement, Shetty and Kessman noted that stories like Slumdog Millionaire linger in our minds even after the movie ends. This film is definitely one of those unforgettable tales. Its story transcends cultural and geographical boundaries, reflecting the kind of narratives we deeply appreciate – ones that merge entertainment with deep human emotions. What sets Slumdog Millionaire apart is not just its cinematic excellence, encompassing narrative, music, and its impressive awards, but also the global collaboration it facilitated to create an internationally successful team.
Slumdog Millionaire 2 will tell the ‘next chapter of Jamal’s journey of discovery’
Paul Smith from Celador expressed his joy saying, “It’s great that Swati and Grant have chosen a Slumdog Millionaire sequel to launch their new company. We at Celador are excited to collaborate with Bridge7, as we follow along with Jamal’s ongoing journey of discovery on the big screen.
At the moment, it’s uncertain whether Patel or any other cast members from the 2008 film will rejoin.
Slumdog Millionaire’s synopsis goes like this: Eighteen-year-old orphan Jamal Malik from Mumbai’s slums stands on the brink of winning a mind-blowing 20 million rupees on India’s Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Accused of cheating, he shares his extraordinary life story with the police, including tales of his time on the streets and the girl he lost. This inspiring film took home 8 Academy Awards, among them Best Picture and Best Director, making it the epitome of a rags-to-riches narrative.
