Slingshot movie from Bleecker Street releases new trailer; David Morrissey stars

As a long-time gamer with a soft spot for both sci-fi thrillers and gripping crime dramas, I can hardly contain my excitement! David Morrissey, a seasoned actor known for his roles in “The Walking Dead” and “Sherwood,” is set to star in two upcoming projects that have caught my eye.

David Morrissey, a renowned British actor, has made a name for himself with numerous remarkable roles spanning his career. Among these, the mini-series “The Long Shadow” stands out. Currently, he’s working on two upcoming projects, and fresh promotional materials were released this week. You can catch him in the BBC Three series titled “Daddy Issues,” and also in the upcoming psychological sci-fi thriller named “Slingshot.”

Under the guidance of Swedish director Mikael Håfström, renowned for his adaptation of Stephen King’s “1408”, the film “Slingshot” was penned by R. Scott Adams (Donner Pass) and Nathan Parker (Moon, Equals). After much anticipation, production on this movie commenced in 2021. In February 2023, Bleecker Street secured the distribution rights for the United States.

In the upcoming production, Morrissey, renowned for his work in shows like “The Walking Dead” and “Sherwood,” joins forces with Casey Affleck (famous for “Manchester by the Sea” and “A Ghost Story”), Laurence Fishburne (iconic from “The Matrix” and “John Wick”), Emily Beecham (“Daphne” and “Little Joe”), Tomer Capone (“The Boys” and “Fauda”), and Mark Ebulué (“North Star”).

The story, titled Slingshot, follows the daring expedition of a group of top-tier astronauts, who are venturing towards Titan – a moon of Saturn. In the lead-up to a perilous slingshot maneuver that could either bring them safely to their destination or send them drifting aimlessly through space, one crew member starts to question his hold on sanity.

On August 30, cinemas across the nation will debut the film “Slingshot” on Bleecker Street; until then, check out the most recent trailer down below.

In an exciting turn of events, I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be stepping back into the shoes of DCS Ian St. Clair for the second season of the gripping BBC crime drama, “Sherwood.” Created by James Graham, this series is a captivating portrayal inspired by the tragic 2004 murders of trade unionists Keith Frogson and Gary Jackson. The first season took us on a chilling journey through the mining community in 2014, delving into the aftermath of these heinous crimes. I can’t wait to see where this story leads us next!

In the upcoming second season, we’ll find ourselves right in the present, and meet two fresh families whose stories will overlap with those of the Sparrows from the first season. The town is set for some transformations as a new sheriff takes office, one who strongly opposes the plan for a new mine, fearing it will only bring misery to the townsfolk.

In addition to Lesley Manville, Julie Jackson will be back in season 2. Coming back as well are Philip Jackson portraying Mickey, the head of the Sparrow family, along with Lorraine Ashbourne who plays his wife, Daphne. Perry Fitzpatrick and Bill Jones reprise their roles as Rory and Ronan, the Sparrows’ sons. The new cast members for season 2 include Robert Lindsay, Monica Dolan, Sharlene Whyte, and Stephen Dillane.
