Skybound's Walking Dead social media asks for the single best performance, fans respond

As a die-hard fan of “The Walking Dead”, I must say that each performance in this series is a testament to the actors’ dedication and skill. However, some stand out more than others, and Michonne, portrayed by Danai Gurira, is one such character whose every scene was a “best performance” for me. Her portrayal of Michonne brought the character to life in a way that resonated with viewers on a deep level.

This week, the official social media accounts for The Walking Dead, managed by Robert Kirkman’s Skybound Entertainment, posed a thought-provoking query, and fans eagerly jumped in with their answers. The query: Which one performance in The Walking Dead stands out as the best?

It’s challenging to pick just one outstanding scene from the eleven seasons of “The Walking Dead,” as there were many exceptional performances by the cast members that truly shone. Fans believed these performances would earn them significant recognition, but unfortunately, the actors associated with this series never received the proper acknowledgment for their remarkable talents.

Delving into the buzzing conversations on Twitter about show (X), I’ve encountered an array of perspectives. Some fans showered overall praise on one actor for their captivating performances, while others agreed that certain scenes were simply unparalleled. Interestingly, there were also comments highlighting some unexpectedly stellar performances, accompanied by insightful explanations as to why these standouts truly shone.

Melissa McBride

McBride has consistently delivered a heartfelt portrayal of Carol Peletier throughout the series, earning a large and loyal fanbase. The discussion thread was filled with praise for her overall performance, highlighting particular scenes where she truly shone. Carol’s character evolved from an abuse victim to a fearless warrior, demonstrating bravery in making difficult choices and executing them. McBride’s acting skills throughout the twelve-year run of the show were remarkable. Many consider “The Grove” as one of her finest performances; for more details on that episode, please see below.

Rick’s reunion with his family

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but reminisce about the unforgettable journey of Andrew Lincoln as Rick Grimes in “The Walking Dead.” From the very first episode, his character was irrevocably altered when he woke up from a coma following a gunshot wound sustained on duty. His heart yearned for his beloved family, driving him to embark on a life-altering search for them.

Lauren Ridloff in “On the Inside”

This one is HIGH on my list too! Many people cited Lauren Ridloff, who played Connie, a deaf woman, as the best for her performance in the season 11 episode, “On The Inside.” Connie is paired with Virgil (Kevin Carroll) in an episode that could be part of a horror film. They took shelter in a home that, unknown to them, was inhabited by a group of ferels. The episode was outstanding, and Ridloff’s performance was incredible. To see this haunted experience from the eyes of a deaf person added to the suspense and horror aspect.

Lennie James in “Clear”

Lennie James played Morgan Jones, a character introduced in the pilot episode and concluded in season 8 of “Fear the Walking Dead,” the first spin-off of the popular franchise. Following his debut in the first season, Morgan wasn’t seen again until the third season’s episode titled “Clear.” By this point, Morgan had endured intense trauma and was not mentally well. In an apartment, Rick, Carl, and Michonne (played by Danai Gurira) found him after the tragic loss of his son, who was slain by a reanimated version of his wife. Believing his purpose was to rid the community of walkers, Morgan’s performance in these episodes was widely praised as one of the best in “The Walking Dead.”

Michonne

In a world turned upside down, I’ve always found myself standing strong – Michonne, the survivor extraordinaire. Brimming with courage and resolute determination, I never hesitated to take charge when needed. My journey took an unexpected turn in season 10, as I uncovered hints about Rick’s potential survival. With my daughter Judith (Cailey Fleming) by my side, I felt compelled to embark on a quest to find him. Before setting off, I was an integral member of our communities. Numerous admirers praised the scenes I graced as Danai Gurira breathed life into this remarkable character, earning accolades for her outstanding performance.

Carl Grimes death

As a gamer, I was taken aback to discover Carl Grimes’ final scene hailed as a “best-of.” Upon reflecting on it, I find myself in agreement with Bluejay Soul’s comment below. This particular episode, despite being heart-wrenchingly emotional for countless viewers like us, demonstrated exceptional acting prowess from every cast member involved.

“The Grove”

Many enthusiasts often place “The Grove” among their top-rated episodes of “The Walking Dead.” This installment, brimming with intense emotions, showcased exceptional acts by actors such as McBride, Chad L. Coleman (Tyreese), Kyla Kenedy (Mika), and Brighton Sharbino, portraying Lizzie. The plot unfolded post-prison fall, when the group found themselves in various locations. A compact band, including baby Judith, whom Tyreese rescued during the prison battle, sought refuge in a humble home nestled within a pecan orchard. Few anticipated the events that would transpire in this narrative thread. Since then, “Look at the Flowers” has been closely associated with TWD.

Negan

Multiple actors were up for playing Negan, the ruthless leader of the Saviors, but Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s remarkable acting left many questioning if another actor could truly capture the essence of the character. Whether you admire or despise Negan, fans can’t deny that Morgan fits this role perfectly. It comes as no surprise that discussions about Morgan’s performance filled the thread. He will reprise his role as Negan in The Walking Dead: Dead City, marking TWDU’s initial spinoff series.

The meme making moment

The prison is one of my favorite eras of the series, and one of the most heartwrenching scenes is the birth of Judith Grimes. Rick’s wife, Lori, went into labor during an altercation with the prisoners they encountered, and this forced Maggie (Lauren Cohan) to deliver the baby. When things become complicated, Lori must choose her life or the baby’s, and she chooses the latter. Add to that, all of this is witnessed by her son Carl, who, after watching his mother cut open and his sister delivered, has to shoot his mother in the head to ensure she didn’t reanimate. UGH! Below is the scene when Rick loses it, realizing that Lori is dead, an event that takes its toll on him in future episodes.

However, it spawned a meme where Rick and “Coral” are depicted, with Rick telling his most groan-worthy dad jokes that are notorious among humans.
