Skyblivion Devs: Remaster and Mod Can Thrive Together!

As a dedicated fan, I can’t help but feel excited about the release of the Oblivion Remaster. Yet, amidst this anticipation, the Skyblivion developers remain undeterred. Though it’s evident that the remastered version of the Game of the Year could impact our beloved mod, there’s ample room for both to flourish. With The Elder Scrolls’ immense popularity and its devoted community standing behind us, both projects are primed for success.

The creators behind Skyblivion have expressed their endorsement for the upcoming Oblivion Remaster, highlighting several benefits it has compared to their own modification project.

Oblivion Remaster will give gamers something that Skyblivion never could

As a gaming aficionado, I’ve got to say, back in 2006, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was nothing short of a game design masterpiece. It quickly took the world by storm, selling over 9.5 million copies and ruling the roost until Skyrim came along five years later. Now, the remastered version of this classic gem is set to return with updated graphics and an improved engine, promising a fresh take on an old favorite.

For avid gamers, this new development might seem fantastic, but it creates a conflict with Skyblivion, an Oblivion mod built using the Skyrim engine, which is set to launch in 2025. This mod won’t be impacted by the remaster. The developers of Skyblivion have expressed their support for Bethesda’s upcoming release and view it as a win for gamers, believing that both projects will ultimately benefit players.

The Skyblivion team stated on Facebook that it’s important to note there’s no need for comparisons or competition between Skyblivion and a possible official remaster. They also expressed confidence that both projects can coexist, providing distinct gaming experiences for fans.

Furthermore, the development team emphasized an essential difference between these two ventures. Unlike the Oblivion Remaster that will be playable on both personal computers and current-generation consoles, Skyblivion is only accessible as a mod for personal computers. Since it’s a PC mod, releasing it on consoles is not feasible for us. As a result, the remaster presents an excellent chance for console gamers to revisit Oblivion, something our project unfortunately cannot offer.

At the close of the year, Oblivion enthusiasts can look forward to not one but two remarkable projects. Although there might be a ripple effect from the remastered game on Skyblivion, it’s the players who are bound to reap the greatest benefits.
