SK25 director Sudha Kongara mourns loss of friend and producer Mano Akkineni; shares a throwback picture ft Salman Khan

As an ardent admirer, I can’t help but echo the sorrow that’s swept through my heart upon hearing of the untimely demise of Mano Akkineni, a cherished friend and benefactor to director Sudha Kongara. In the annals of Tamil cinema, he served as a pivotal producer, backing Sudha’s debut venture, Drohi, years ago. Their connection ran deep, transcending the boundaries of professional ties, making his absence now truly felt.

Following the producer’s death on January 19, 2025, the director posted an old photo with herself, the deceased producer, and the well-known Bollywood actor Salman Khan.

As a devoted admirer, I’ve taken to social media to honor the passing of my first producer and dearest friend, Mano Akkineni. May his star shine just as brilliantly among the cosmic heavens as it did during his time on earth. I will deeply miss him. Throughout my career, he was always there for my initial screenings, serving as my first audience.

The movie I’m currently producing is a tribute to you, Mano, for I am certain that you, an ardent cinephile, will be eagerly following my progress. Being one of the most passionate admirers of cinema, this work is dedicated to your love for it – reminiscent of those two enthusiastic fans from 2008, Panvel.

2010 saw the release of a gripping action-thriller movie centering around two companions whose friendship is tested when one is involved in a murder. When one friend decides to report the crime to the police, the situation intensifies, breeding hostility and ultimately culminating in a heated confrontation. The film showcased notable performances by Poorna, Poonam Bajwa, Thiagarajan, among others, in significant roles.

At present, filmmaker Sudha Kongara is busy with her upcoming project, provisionally named SK25. In the main role is Sivakarthikeyan, while Ravi Mohan and Atharvaa Murali play supporting characters. Notably, this will be the first major role for Sreeleela in Tamil films as a lead actress.

It’s worth noting that the current project is said to be a revival of a prior partnership between Sudha Kongara and Suriya, an arrangement that had been put on hold previously and was initially unveiled with the title “Puranaanooru.
