SJ Suryah on Pawan Kalyan’s rejection of Kushi 2: ‘It could have been another blockbuster’

As a long-time admirer of SJ Suryah’s multifaceted talent, I can’t help but feel a tinge of nostalgia when I reflect on his journey in the industry. From directing blockbusters with stars like Pawan Kalyan and Thalapathy Vijay to acting in critically acclaimed films like Raayan, SJ Suryah’s career is nothing short of inspiring.

In simpler terms, SJ Suryah is recognized as a highly adaptable performer in the film industry of South India. His recent achievement is the success of Raayan, where he portrayed the villain opposite Dhanush. Prior to becoming an actor full-time, SJ Suryah initially made his mark as a director, producing numerous massive hits featuring prominent stars such as Vijay, Ajith, and Pawan Kalyan.

In his early directorial years, SJ Suryah helmed movies like Kushi in Telugu with Pawan Kalyan (in 2001) and in Tamil with Thalapathy Vijay (in 2000), both of which were massive hits. During an interview, he mentioned that he proposed the idea for Kushi 2 to Pawan Kalyan back in the 2000s. However, Pawan Kalyan, who is now the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, declined the offer.

During the publicity for Saripodhaa Sanivaaram, the actor from Raayan shared his thoughts. In this film, he collaborates with Nani in a significant part. He stated, “Given that it’s a love story and bears some resemblance to Kushi 2, I proposed the idea to Pawan Kalyan sir. Having previously worked on both Kushi and Nani in Telugu, I thought he might be interested. At first, he showed interest and agreed to work on it following his current projects. However, later, he expressed that his focus has changed and he is no longer comfortable with love stories.”

Additionally, Sj Suryah expressed his feelings of disappointment after Pawan Kalyan turned down the project during the late 1990s, prior to him fully dedicating himself to acting.

As a die-hard fan, I couldn’t help but voice my disagreement with his perspective. I believe, had he chosen a different path, it could have resulted in another box office smash. However, I respect his artistic freedom and choices. Interestingly, in the year 2010, he once again collaborated with Pawan Kalyan for the action-packed entertainer, Puli.

As a die-hard fan bursting with excitement, I can’t help but share the thrilling news about Saripodhaa Sanivaaram – Nani’s upcoming Telugu masterpiece! This action-packed drama, directed by the brilliant Vivek Athreya, is all set to storm the cinemas on August 29.
