Jenna Ortega and Taylor Russell are being eyed to star in a remake of Single White Female.

Back in 1992, I found myself captivated by the intense psychological erotic thriller, “Single White Female,” directed by Barbet Schroeder. This gripping tale was adapted from John Lutz’s 1990 novel, SWF Seeks Sake. In the film, two remarkable actresses, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Bridget Fonda, delivered mesmerizing performances.

What do we know about the Single White Female remake?

According to Jeff Sneider’s The Insider, discussions are underway for both Ortega and Russell to take on leading roles in an upcoming remake being developed by Sony Pictures and Elizabeth Gabler’s 3000 Pictures.

Currently, there’s no director confirmed for the project, and the identity of the scriptwriter remains undetermined. Sneider hinted that the film might start production sometime next year, considering Ortega will be busy shooting scenes for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming movie, and Russell is linked to the remake of The Thomas Crown Affair, though these associations are yet to be officially verified.

Previously, Sony Pictures had plans for a remake of the TV show “Single White Female,” but this project failed to gain traction.

Jennifer Ortega is recognized for portraying the main character in Netflix’s Wednesday series as Gomez Addams, as well as Tara Carpenter in the Scream franchise. His acting credits also encompass roles in The Fallout (2021), X (2022), Miller’s Girl (2024), and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024). Upcoming projects include Death of a Unicorn by A24 and Hurry Up Tomorrow directed by Trey Edward Shults.

Simultaneously, Russell took on the role of Judy Robinson in Netflix’s Lost in Space and has appeared in various films including Escape Room (2019), Waves (2019), Words on Bathroom Walls (2020), Escape Room: Tournament of Champions (2021), Bones and All (2022), and several other projects.

Recently separated from her fiancé Sam Rawson (Steven Weber), Allison Jones (Bridget Fonda) takes in a new roommate named Hedra Carlson (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Streaming on Fubo, the plot describes their initial friendship that later turns sour as Allison reconsiders her engagement. As jealousy and hostility rise within Hedra, she becomes violent in her attempts to remove Sam from the picture. With each passing moment, Hedra’s behavior grows increasingly menacing, leaving Allison to realize the true nature of her roommate’s intentions.
