As a veteran gamer with decades of experience under my belt, I must admit that I’m genuinely intrigued by the buzz surrounding inZoi. The success of its character studio on Steam, outperforming established titles, is a testament to the anticipation and excitement the gaming community has for this upcoming rival to The Sims.
At Gamescom Opening Night Live, Krafton Inc., creators of PUBG, unveiled their upcoming competitor to Maxis’ The Sims, titled inZoi. Despite not having a playable demo or release date yet, they have already launched a character studio where you can create ‘Zois’, characters that will be used in the game. Remarkably, this feature has managed to enter the Steam top 100 concurrent players chart, surpassing games like The Finals and ARK: Survival Ascended.
Currently, the inZoi character studio is placed 89th on Steam’s list, boasting a player base of approximately 13,679 active users and peaking at over 18,000 players. Notably, Krafton chose to release the game’s character studio as a demo, which isn’t an unusual approach for major games like Capcom with Dragon’s Dogma 2 or Deep Silver with its upcoming Saints Row reboot in 2022. However, neither of these demos have achieved the level of success that inZoi has already reached.
On SteamDB, the trial for creating characters and storing them in Dragon’s Dogma 2 peaked at a record-breaking 17,528 participants. This is over a thousand fewer than the current peak of 18,657 players for inZoi: Character Studio. It’s important to mention that since Krafton’s demo is only accessible until August 26th, it’s expected to increase as more players test out its extensive character customization features and realistic avatar designs.
Despite the fact that a definite launch date for Krafton’s Sims competitor has not been announced, we’ll have to wait and see if it can meet the early excitement. However, if you’re eager to get a taste of what inZoi will provide, its character creator offers a sneak peek. This is particularly true because the ‘Zois’ you create will be kept and usable after the Early Access release, once they have been uploaded to ‘Canvas,’ the game’s UGC platform. In simpler terms, your characters will remain even after the game leaves early access.
