Silent Night, Deadly Night Reimagining in the Works, Director & Release Window Announced

As a horror enthusiast who has survived countless sleepless nights thanks to the genre’s chilling offerings, I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and apprehension at the news of the Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot. The original film, though it caused quite a stir back in 1984, has always held a special place in my heart for its raw, unapologetic terror.

“You’ve made it through Halloween, now try and survive Christmas.”

The controversial and offensive holiday slasher film titled “Silent Night, Deadly Night,” initially released in 1984, is experiencing a resurgence – some might say another life, or perhaps death. Terrifier outfit Cineverse has secured worldwide rights for the reboot of this cult horror classic.

Following the unveiling of Terrifier 3, a film set during Christmas, Cineverse is delving into horror stories associated with holidays once more. This time, they’re giving a modern twist to an ’80s classic that sparked controversy. Despite receiving mixed feedback upon its initial release, Silent Night, Deadly Night generated significant buzz among parents.

Due to a well-organized demonstration, the theater screenings of the film were halted mere days following its premiere. Consequently, this incident propelled the movie into becoming one of the most contentious ’80s horror films ever produced.

Who’s the team behind the Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot?

According to a report from Deadline, the upcoming Silent Night, Deadly Night reboot will be helmed by director Mike P. Nelson (known for Wrong Turn and V/H/S/85). The executive producers for this project are Scott Schneid, Dennis Whitehead, who were also involved in the original film, along with Jamie R. Thompson.

As an ardent fan, I’m thrilled to share that Brandon Hill and Brad Miska (of Terrifier 3 fame) are spearheading the upcoming reboot for Cineverse! They will be joined by Erick Opeka and Yolanda Macias as executive producers. This exciting project is slated for a theatrical release towards the end of 2025. Can’t wait to see what they have in store for us horror enthusiasts!

The initial Tri-Star movie revolves around a character who, following a harrowing event, transforms into a ruthless Santa Claus impersonator as an adult. Key cast members include Robert Brian Wilson, Alex Burton, Lilyan Chauvin, and Linnea Quigley.

Hill, the Executive Director of Acquisitions at Cineverse, has consistently admired Silent Night, Deadly Night and is eager to share Mike’s vision with other enthusiasts of classic slashers. With a growing appetite for independent horror movies that pack a punch, we anticipate this production will attract substantial audiences across various platforms, from cinemas to home entertainment and streaming services,” said Hill, as reported by Deadline.
