A fresh sneak peek for Shrek 5 unveils that Zendaya is now part of the ensemble in the upcoming animated sequel film.
The fifth installment of the Shrek franchise, Shrek 5, is planned for release in U.S. cinemas in December 2026. This film marks the return of the main Shrek series, with no new movies released since Shrek Forever After in 2010.

What happens in the Shrek 5 teaser trailer?
In the sneak peek for Shrek 5, the main character Shrek (voiced by Mike Myers) and Donkey (voiced by Eddie Murphy) inquire from the Magic Mirror about who’s the most beautiful among them all. The Magic Mirror replies, “Oh, definitely you, Shrek,” followed by a display of various Shrek-themed internet memes. Towards the end, we catch a glimpse of Zendaya’s character, who appears to be Shrek’s daughter.
It’s important to mention that in Shrek the Third, released in 2007, Fiona (voice by Cameron Diaz), Shrek’s wife, gives birth to triplets. However, it remains unclear if their other two children will appear in Shrek 5 or who will voice them.
Zendaya has lent her voice to animated films previously, including Chi from Duck Duck Goose (2018), Meechee in Smallfoot (2018), and Lola Bunny in Space Jam: A New Legacy (2021). She’s famously recognized for her roles as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria, MJ in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and she has also appeared in movies like The Greatest Showman (2017), Malcolm & Marie (2021), and Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films.
At the moment, specifics about the storyline for the fifth Shrek film are kept secret. The movie is helmed by directors Walt Dohrn, who previously portrayed Rumplestilskin in Shrek Forever After, and Conrad Vernon, known for voicing Gingy. Additionally, Brad Ableson co-directs this project. Gina Shay and Chris Meledandri, the CEO of Illumination, are the producers of the film.
On December 23, 2026, Shrek 5 is scheduled for release in U.S. cinemas, a production by Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation.
