Initially, Maddock Films launched their franchise in 2018 through the film Stree, which soon gained a lot of popularity among viewers. Originally, the creators had planned to release Stree 2 on August 15, 2024, for Independence Day. However, they’ve made an unexpected adjustment, arranging special pre-releases from 7:30 PM (IST) on August 14 instead. Guided by director Amar Kaushik, the eagerly awaited sequel brings back beloved characters while also introducing some new ones. Performing their roles once again are Shraddha Kapoor, Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, and Aparshakti Khurana.

Enhancing the anticipation, it’s been confirmed that Tamannaah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan will make special appearances, with the latter returning to his character Bhaskar from Bhediya. This cross-over serves to reinforce the Maddock Cinematic Universe, a universe that has been growing steadily since Stree first captivated audiences in 2018.

Earlier, Shraddha Kapoor briefly appeared in the film Bhediya, suggesting a connection between these movies. Now, viewers are excited to discover how Varun Dhawan’s character, Bhaskar, will influence the plot of Stree 2.

There’s a lot of talk about Akshay Kumar possibly making a surprise appearance in this film. Rajkummar hinted, “The movie has around 3 to 4 cameos,” while Shraddha joked, “55… I was just kidding.” She further mentioned, “However, I must say they are special and I believe the audience will be excited about them.”

In the initial movie, titled “Stree,” we encountered an evil spirit named Stree who kidnapped men during a festival’s four nights in the town of Chanderi. In the upcoming sequel, “Stree 2,” the narrative escalates as a new terror emerges—a headless ghost called “Sar Kata Bhoot” that haunts the village and kidnaps women, rekindling fear among the villagers. The trailer suggests Shraddha’s character may return to Chanderi to meet up with Vicky and his companions once more.

The anticipation for Stree 2 has grown even stronger following the unveiling of four tunes: This Night (Aaj Ki Raat), Beautiful (Khoobsurat), Not Coming (Aayi Nai), and We Will Always Be Yours (Tumhare Hi Rahenge Hum). Among these, Aayi Nai, sung by the renowned Bhojpuri artist Pawan Singh, has resonated particularly well with listeners.

Pre-sales for Stree 2 have been noteworthy, showing promising signs as the film has allegedly earned approximately $1.7 million by selling about 492,533 tickets. Even with a congested box office on Independence Day, industry professionals remain hopeful about the thriller’s success. Trade expert Girish Johar anticipates a robust debut, speculating that Stree 2 might generate anywhere from $2.3 million to $2.9 million on its opening day.
