Should you attack or help Squint? – Stalker 2

As a seasoned Stalker 2 gamer with years of trekking through the Zone under my belt, I can confidently say that helping or attacking Squint is a matter of personal choice, but there’s more to it than meets the eye.

Squint is an NPC that you will meet early in your time with Stalker 2. He is a person of interest to local authorities who want to know what happened to three of their men. You’ll spend a bit of time in the early game tracking him down, and then you’ll need to decide what to do with him.

Should you attack or help Squint in Stalker 2?

Squint can be found in an old windmill in a location called Old Mill to the east of Zalissya. He has the mill cleverly laid out with traps, so be careful as you climb it. When you get to the top, you’ll need to chat with him and have your first opportunity to decide if you wish to attack or help him.

At present, opt to aid him, and he’ll guide you to an artifact hidden in a nearby cave, which serves as his means of escape. Proceed towards the marked location on your map, but keep in mind that the entrance to the cave is concealed within a small house. Approach with caution, for there’s a mutant lurking below and the artifact is well-hidden.

Once you obtain the artifact, exit the cave and head towards Squint. Upon reaching him, you’ll be given the choice to either engage in hostility or offer assistance. Should you choose aggression, you can eliminate him, claim the artifact, ransack his body for loot, and acquire the necessary Ward Sensors from him. Alternatively, if you elect not to attack, he will reward you with the sensors instead.

I confronted him, fired at him, afterward ransacking his corpse and ascending to loot a sack hidden on an overhead beam. At sundown, he deliberately led me into a dim cavern housing a ferocious mutant without warning, which felt like retaliation instead of murder. Discussing with fellow gamers who have spent more hours in the game, it appears that Squint doesn’t reappear under any circumstances.
