As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in the world of crime dramas and police procedurals, I can confidently say that I am beyond excited for the debut of Sheriff Country. With my extensive background in unraveling complex plots and investigating shady characters, I feel like I’m stepping into familiar territory with this new series.
Next year, I’ll be diving into the world of “Sheriff Country” on CBS, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any details about this Morena Baccarin-led spinoff in the “Fire Country” universe that I don’t know. In fact, I was already acquainted with Mickey Fox back in season 2, episode 6, titled “Alert the Sheriff.” This tough lawwoman found herself in a difficult situation when her daughter Sky was admitted to rehab just recently.
Similar to Bode’s narrative, this series will delve into the profound impact drugs have had on a family. Instead of focusing solely on a child, it will also explore Mickey’s struggle with the lasting consequences of her father’s arrest as a drug dealer, which occurred decades ago. This event dismantled his marriage to Sharon’s mother and left the two sisters, connected not by blood but by shared experience, to deal with the fallout.
As a doting aunt, I’ve always been mindful about guiding my sister’s child to stay on the right path, given the challenges faced by my nephew. However, my daughter, Sky, has found it difficult to meet my high expectations. The weight of her struggles has been a constant burden on me. Yet, I also deeply understand and empathize with individuals who are victims of their own choices, and those who unintentionally get swept up in the chaos – traits that truly define my character.
Consequently, it’s not surprising that Sheriff County is poised to delve deeper into the drug issue in Edgewater, an aspect that their predecessor only barely touched upon due to their primary focus on firefighting. Specifically, I’m talking about the prevalence of marijuana trafficking in the area.
In the gripping third episode of “Fire Country,” titled “Where There’s Smoke…,” I found myself drawn into the tale of Mojave, a lawless character portrayed by Nick Gomez, who was ready to take drastic actions to safeguard his illicit crops amidst the raging fires. Moreover, there was Sleeper, a drug dealer operating from the Three Rock Fire Camp. However, Mickey’s narrative started to weave a more comprehensive tale about the town and its mysteries.
Collider reports that while at Fan Expo Canada, Morena Baccarin shared some details on this point:
I have a daughter, and I am enmeshed in this sort of, like drama, political drama that’s happening in the town, having to do with illegal marijuana growth, which is what my dad got arrested for.
The part concerning the “political drama” is captivating due to the fact that Mickey’s initial episode hinted at a lieutenant in the department being involved in the drug trade of Edgewater. It’s possible he was the sole participant, but it’s also plausible he wasn’t the only one. Moreover, there’s speculation that this corruption might extend beyond the level she previously assumed.
Mickey strongly dislikes individuals who break their loyalty to the badge and the oath that all law enforcement officers pledge to uphold. It’s quite possible that “Sheriff County” Season 1 might explore a conspiracy as its main storyline over the course of the season. If this is the case, it would certainly be an enticing plot point to watch unfold.
