At the audio launch of the film Thug Life, Chinmayi’s extraordinary rendition of the song Mutha Mazhai received a great deal of affection. Given the massive acclaim her interpretation of the song has been receiving, the playback singer has expressed regret to her fellow artist Dhee, who sang it in the movie originally.
In her interview with The Hindu, Chinmayi openly expressed her joy over the positive reception to the song she had sung in its Telugu and Hindi versions. She clarified that unfortunately, the original singer wasn’t present on that day, so she simply stepped in and did her job as a stand-in for the missing artist.
The performer continued by reciting a conversation from Kamal Haasan’s Dasavataram, disclosing moments when she ponders the reality of divine beings. She further mentioned that it became apparent that the team was aiming for an unusual approach upon learning that Dhee was involved in the production, as she understood that this character had a unique facial expression distinctly her own.
Chinmayi remarked that it seems like her and Dhee have unwittingly found themselves locked in a wrestling contest, which neither of them initially agreed to. However, she made it clear that, as artists, they appreciate each other’s artistic endeavors.
Additionally, the performer expressed, “I feel it’s important to apologize to her. She’s a budding artist who began her journey some time ago. In another 15 years, she could be as renowned as Chinmayi or Shreya Ghoshal. Each will have their own unique space, and there’s no need to compare our performances. If an 18-year-old or 20-year-old Chinmayi were asked to perform like this, she likely wouldn’t.
For people who might not know, the performer has gained widespread popularity following her rendition of the song “Mutha Mazhai” from Thug Life during a live performance. Consequently, she felt compelled to clarify certain aspects due to the reaction that ensued.
