As a seasoned gamer who has traversed countless virtual worlds and saved kingdoms aplenty, I must say that The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom has left me utterly spellbound. Coming hot on the heels of Tears of the Kingdom, this game has proven that Nintendo is a force to be reckoned with in the realm of innovation and creativity.
Stepping into the shoes of Princess Zelda was an unexpected delight, offering a fresh perspective on the familiar franchise. The concept of wielding wisdom over brute strength was not only refreshing but also opened up new avenues for exploration, combat, and puzzle-solving that I hadn’t experienced in a traditional Zelda title before.
The echo mechanic took Hyrule’s vastness to a whole new level, allowing for unrestricted exploration and experimentation. From warping across chasms with old beds to creating copies of Sea Urchins or Moblins to defeat bosses, the possibilities were endless. And let’s not forget about the side quests that kept me engaged long after the main story had been conquered.
In a nutshell, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is the Shacknews Best Nintendo Switch Game of 2024. It has set a new benchmark for what a handheld gaming experience can be and reminded me once again why I fell in love with this hobby in the first place.
Now, if only I could convince Link to take a break from saving the kingdom and let me boss him around for a change… Maybe I’ll try using my echo power on him next time! After all, who says wisdom can’t be used as a form of manipulation?
Surprisingly, just a year after the spectacular launch of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, another Zelda game was unveiled – The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. Given that Tears of the Kingdom had been anticipated for nearly five years, one wouldn’t have thought another installment would appear so soon. However, it seems Nintendo had been quietly developing this new title all along. To everyone’s astonishment, Echoes of Wisdom was released in 2024, captivating fans with its unique charm and solidifying its position as the top game on Nintendo’s handheld hybrid console.
In contrast to previous installments, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom offered a unique twist. Unlike the usual story where Link, dressed in green, embarks on another kingdom-saving quest, this time players took on the role of Princess Zelda for the first time. Given her royal status, her approach to adventure significantly deviated from how Link would handle things. Unlike him, she doesn’t wield a sword valiantly; instead, she navigates her journey shrewdly, employing wisdom rather than brute force.
The concept that Zelda can fabricate duplicates of almost anything in the world using her wand is incredibly clever. It encourages diverse strategies for exploration, battles, and problem-solving, granting fans the freedom typically associated with an open-world game like Breath of the Wild or the upcoming Tears of the Kingdom. Some players might subdue a boss with Sea Urchins, others could use Moblins, while some may simply pelt them with rocks. The extensive room for creativity sets this apart from most conventional Zelda games.
A Zelda game wouldn’t feel like a Zelda game without a large world to delve into, and Hyrule remains as captivating as ever. The echo mechanic makes exploration fun, allowing players to use their wit to explore any region they desire. There are hardly any limitations or guidelines set in place. This is demonstrated through the game’s dungeons. If a dungeon’s floor collapses, sending Zelda to the basement and ordering her to fight her way back up, a player can easily teleport to the entrance and leap across the chasm using a collection of old beds.
1) “The people of Hyrule needing assistance just makes it all the better. Side quests provide additional enjoyment long after the main story, adding even more playtime to The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom than fans originally anticipated. This is one of the factors that sets The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom apart as Shacknews’ Best Nintendo Switch Game in 2024.
