Severance: Ben Stiller on if Fans Should Now Be Rooting for Outie or Innie Mark

Ben Stiller shares his thoughts on whether viewers should support Outie or Innie Mark after the conclusion of “Severance” Season 2.

You can now watch the concluding episode of Severance Season 2 on Apple TV+. Earlier today, it was confirmed that the series will continue for a third season, but as of now, a release date for the new season remains undetermined.

What did Severance’s Ben Stiller say about how audiences should feel about Outie and Innie Mark?

During a conversation, Stiller was questioned about whether viewers’ allegiance should be towards Inner or Outer Mark following the events in Severance Season 2’s finale.

Stiller replied, “That’s what I appreciate most – you can’t predict your emotions. With our extensive background in Episode 7, we want there to be a lot of emotional investment in the relationship between Mark and Gemma, even though it hasn’t been shown as much. Ideally, part of the audience will be cheering for Innie Mark, while others might exclaim, ‘Oh my goodness, Gemma! Mark could simply walk through that door!’

In the final episode of Severance Season 2, Mark, portrayed by Adam Scott, chose to stay within the confines of Lumon as his ‘innie’ persona, accompanying Helly (Britt Lower). Meanwhile, Mark’s real-life spouse, Gemma, reentered the external world.

Dan Erickson commented on Mark and Helly’s situation, stating, “Their actions in the final scene reveal their mindset. I don’t believe they have a specific destination in mind when they flee. They are clear about what they are escaping – oblivion. In essence, they choose to keep living, whether it’s for five more minutes or five more years. Their goal is simply to persist and continue existing. If they wish to carry on with their life together, they must find a way to survive on that floor.
