Seiko Celebrates 60 Years of the Prospex With a Trio of Limited Editions

In honor of the recently unveiled King Seiko Vanac Collection, Seiko is commemorating its beloved Prospex watch’s 60-year milestone with three exclusive limited editions:

1. The Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 60th Anniversary 600m Saturation Diver
2. The Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary
3. The Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary

Each of these timepieces is a celebration of the iconic Prospex watch, designed to pay homage to Seiko’s rich history and innovative spirit.

Back in 1965, as a dedicated fan, I learned from a seasoned diver about how watches often got damaged during deep dives. This sparked a response from the brand I adore – Seiko. They took up the challenge and created Japan’s first-ever diver’s watch, boasting an automatic movement and offering 150 meters of water resistance. What an impressive feat for a brand I hold dear!

As a gamer, I’m thoroughly captivated by the Prospex 1965 Heritage Diver’s 60th Anniversary watch, a tribute to Seiko’s first diver’s timepiece, the “62MAS” from 1965. This watch is designed under the theme of “The Great Wave,” a nod to the legendary woodblock print by Hokusai. The watch boasts an in-house automatic caliber, the 6R55, offering a three-day power reserve and a robust 300 meters of water resistance.

The Prospex 1968 Heritage Diver’s GMT 60th Anniversary edition carries on the same inspirational theme. It boasts a distinctive dial pattern and caseback embellished with the famous wave symbol, honoring the original 1968 Diver – Seiko’s inaugural one-piece case hi-beat diver’s watch offering 300 meters of water resistance. For the first time in this model, these references are coupled with a short-length bracelet featuring micro-adjustable clasps.

To put it simply, the Prospex Marinemaster “Shinkai” 60th Anniversary 600m Saturation Diver is arguably the most advanced model yet from the brand. Its name, which translates to “deep sea” in Japanese, reflects its roots in the iconic 1968 Diver. The watch features a fresh design with a striking blue dial and a new structure. It’s made at the Shizukuishi Watch Studio using lightweight titanium, has scratch-resistant coatings, and is equipped with the brand’s latest in-house 8L45 movement.

The Seiko Prospex 60th Anniversary Limited Edition watches, priced around £1,270 to £4,130 GBP (approximately $1,637 to $5,323 USD), are now open for pre-orders and will be officially launched in July through Seiko.
