As a seasoned gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I must say that the announcement of Bandai Namco’s Shadow Labyrinth has left me both intrigued and slightly bewildered. The Pac-Man episode from Amazon’s Secret Level series had me scratching my head, but now it all makes sense!
The Secret Level series from Amazon was unveiled a week ago, featuring numerous short installments, crafted by the genius behind Love, Death, and Robots in collaboration with well-known game studios. Some episodes such as Sifu’s paid homage to classic games, while others surprised viewers with their unique twists.
Among them was an episode reminiscent of a horror movie, titled “Pac-Man”. However, contrary to what fans anticipated, this wasn’t the classic Pac-Man from the Bandai Namco game as they knew it. A recent announcement has shed light on the true nature of this production.
Bandai Namco’s next Pac-Man game Shadow Labyrinth explains the Secret Level episode
Bandai Namco has unveiled their upcoming title, Shadow Labyrinth. This isn’t your typical 2D action platformer; it offers an innovative twist on the classic Pac-Man concept by exploring new genre dimensions.
Based on the trailer summary, players take on the role of Swordsman No. 8. A mystical, floating orb named PUCK awakens you on an unknown planet filled with remnants of ancient conflicts. You’re selected to carry out its desires. To stay alive, you’ll uncover hidden truths, devour foes, and evolve from a prey into the top predator as you come to terms with your true mission.
The trailer echoed the show’s graphics, portraying a shadowy realm that resembled a sinister version of the Pac-Man universe. Although the episode was peculiar in itself, it left both franchise enthusiasts and viewers feeling uneasy, the trailer for the game ultimately clarified the mystery – it presented a warped and brutal interpretation of the original game where nothing is off-limits.
For those who are interested, the game is set to debut in 2025, and it will be playable on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, as well as on Steam for PC systems.
