As a die-hard fan of The Rookie, I can’t help but feel a mix of anticipation and nostalgia as we hear about another spin-off in the works! Having followed the journey of John Nolan, played by the charismatic Nathan Fillion, it’s exciting to see the franchise expanding with a new storyline.
20th Television and Lionsgate Television are joining forces to create another spin-off of “The Rookie” for ABC, inspired by the well-known Nathan Fillion police procedural drama. This move follows more than a year since the initial spin-off, “The Rookie: Feds,” featuring Niecy Nash-Betts, was discontinued after one season.
As a passionate gamer, I’m excited to share that I’ll be part of an upcoming spin-off, penned by none other than Alexi Hawley, the mastermind behind the original series (The Recruit). Not only will he be the writer, but also an executive producer alongside Fillion, Bill Norcross, and Michelle Chapman. This production powerhouse is a joint effort between Lionsgate Television and 20th Television. While details about the cast are being kept under tight wraps for now, I can’t wait to find out who else will be joining this adventure!
What is the second The Rookie spin-off about?
The second spinoff of “The Rookie,” located in Washington state, centers around a man entering a fresh phase of life as he transitions into police work during his second act. Similar to the original series based in Los Angeles, it maintains the central theme of midlife change, with Nathan Fillion’s character John Nolan initially switching careers to become the oldest rookie in the LAPD.
