Following several rounds of discussions, Zach Braff has agreed to star in the revival of the popular series Scrubs. According to Deadline, Braff will once again play the character John “J.D.” Dorian as part of ABC’s new spin-off of the medical sitcom.
Almost but not quite, the return of Braff’s project was imminent, but disagreements concerning finances and shooting locations caused tension. It is said that Braff desired the remake to be filmed in Los Angeles instead of Vancouver. Without Braff, the Scrubs reboot was teetering on the brink. However, a deal has now been struck with Braff, though the location for filming remains undisclosed.
Who could join Zach Braff in the Scrubs reboot cast?
With Braff’s return, ABC and 20th Television are planning to invite key cast members for the reboot. This includes Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid, Judy Reyes as Carla Espinosa, and John C. McGinley as Perry Cox.
Development on the Scrubs reboot started in December. The original series creator, Bill Lawrence, is set to serve as an executive producer, contributing to the project’s development. However, if the reboot receives a series order, Lawrence will not be the showrunner.
At present, Lawrence is bound by an exclusive contract with Warner Bros. Television, taking charge of series such as Shrinking, Bad Monkey, Ted Lasso, and the forthcoming Steve Carell HBO comedy. Yet, Lawrence has reached a deal with Disney to aid in the revival of Scrubs.
Scrubs is a humorous TV series about the lives of aspiring doctors and established medical professionals at the fictional Sacred Heart Hospital. Originally produced by Lawrence, it first aired in October 2001 on NBC, running for seven seasons. In its final two seasons, it moved to ABC. The last season was revamped as ‘Scrubs: Med School’.
The sitcom “Scrubs” received a total of 17 Emmy nominations, among which were the categories for “Outstanding Comedy Series” in both 2005 and 2006, as well as a nod for “Outstanding Lead Actor” for Zach Braff in 2005. You can catch up on this popular series by streaming it on Hulu and Peacock.
