On New Year’s Day, 2024, the public domain welcomed the Steamboat Willie version of Mickey Mouse. The following day saw the announcement of Screamboat, along with several other horror films where Steamboat Willie is reimagined as a slasher antagonist.

What else do we know about Screamboat?

The film is directed by Steven LaMorte, who also co-wrote the script with Matthew Garcia-Dunn.

In a conversation with IndieWire, LaMorte described the film as follows: “It’s about a nighttime ferry journey in New York City where ordinary travelers, crew members, and everyone else aboard are under threat from a mischievous, malicious mouse who is small but packs a big trouble-making punch.”

In addition, LaMorte commented on the Steamboat Willie character of Thornton: “Due to his large stature, there are some extremely wild deaths in this film that were quite challenging to execute. I can’t help but feel a bit uneasy about discussions I might need to have with my mother regarding certain scenes once we’ve finished watching.”

In the upcoming movie “Screamboat”, director LaMorte mentions that actor Thornton is donning a total of five hours of makeup and a ten-pound weight of prosthetics for his role.

Besides the lead actors, you’ll find Allison Pittel, Amy Schumacher, Jesse Posey, Jesse Kove, Rumi C. Jean-Louis, Jarlath Conroy, and Charles Edwin Powell gracing the screen in this movie as well.

LaMorte clarified that Screamboat won’t embody the role of a terrifying masked villain like Steamboat Willie. Instead, he assured us that their version of Steamboat Willie remains true to the original character – with the familiar tunes, poses, and all other distinctive features.

DeskPop Entertainment, along with Iconic Events Releasing, plans to launch Screamboat in the first quarter of 2025.
