Scream 7’s Mason Gooding Praises Neve Campbell: ‘The Godmother of the Genre’

Mason Gooding will once again take up the character of Chad Meeks-Martin for Scream 7. Joining Gooding in this upcoming Scream movie is Neve Campbell, who makes a return as the iconic Sidney Prescott. During an interview promoting his latest film Heart Eyes, Gooding expressed high regard for Campbell’s significant impact on the comedy slasher genre.

Gooding expressed to Entertainment Tonight that the genre in “Heart Eyes” seems to be the grandmatron, which we’re fortunate to adopt. He explained, “The concept of blending two distinct moods is what I mean.” It’s clear that the dominant tone is more terrifying and intense, yet she effortlessly manages each portrayal with a sense of calm, care, and resilience that makes every iteration of her character, and her entire body of work.

Apart from Campbell, Gooding is looking forward to collaborating once more with Jasmin Savoy Brown, the actress portraying his character’s screen sister, Mindy Meeks-Martin.

Gooding stated about Brown, “I’m constantly in touch with her.” He explained that playing a character who has been surrounded by so much love both on set and in general has made it easy for us to converse comfortably. This extends to our conversations during scenes or making decisions… In the end, I owe the warmth she exudes and the welcoming environment she creates.

Who is involved in Scream 7 besides Mason Gooding?

As a die-hard fan, I’m thrilled to share that in Scream 7, the iconic character Gale Weathers, played by Courteney Cox, makes her comeback! Joel McHale steps into the role of Sidney’s husband, Mark Evans, while Isabel May joins us as Sidney’s daughter. Can’t wait to see what unfolds!

McKenna Grace, Asa Germann, Sam Rechner, Celeste O’Connor, and Anna Camp also star.

In Scream 5 and Scream 6, actresses Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega are conspicuously missing from the cast roster. Melissa Barrera was let go by Spyglass Media Group in November following her comments on the Israel-Hamas conflict. The following day, Jenna Ortega withdrew due to scheduling issues with Wednesday Season 2. However, it was later disclosed that a contract dispute was the reason behind her departure.

In the director’s chair for Scream 7 is franchise originator Kevin Williamson, working off a script penned by Guy Busick. The screenplay collaboration is also credited to James Vanderbilt, who will produce alongside Paul Neinstein and William Sherak.

Scream 7 opens in theaters on February 27, 2026.
