As a seasoned gamer who has survived countless nights of horror movie marathons and lost count of how many times I’ve rewound the original Scream trilogy, hearing about Patrick Dempsey potentially returning as Mark Kincaid in Scream 7 sends shivers down my spine…of excitement!
Patrick Dempsey says he’s had conversations about reprising his Mark Kincaid role in Scream 7.
The upcoming Scream 7 is being helmed by Kevin Williamson, the man who penned the script for the original Scream from 1996. Williamson has been involved in the Scream series since its inception, contributing as a writer for Scream 2 (1997) and Scream 4 (2011), serving as a producer for Scream 3 (2000), and acting as an executive producer for both Scream (2022) and the upcoming Scream VI (2023).
Previously, it had been revealed that Neve Campbell will once again take on the character of Sidney Prescott in Scream 7, following a delay due to discussions about her contract and remuneration for Scream VI.
Now, Dempsey is hinting that he also may be returning for Scream 7.
What did Patrick Dempsey say about Scream 7?
On Today’s show, Dempsey mentioned that he is “awaiting the screenplay for Scream 7.” He added, “We’ve discussed it, but I haven’t received anything officially, so let’s wait and find out what transpires.
When asked about potentially appearing in another Scream film, Dempsey playfully replied, “Absolutely, I enjoy having work.
In the horror movie Scream 3, directed by Wes Craven, Dempsey’s character, Mark Kincaid, was portrayed. This detective, who had feelings for Sidney, investigated the Ghostface killings in that film. Despite not reappearing in any other Scream sequels until now, it has been established through canon that Kincaid is married to Sidney and they have three children together.
At present, according to Variety’s reports from September 2024, Courtney Cox has not yet confirmed her return as Gale Weathers in the upcoming seventh Scream movie. Similarly, Matthew Lillard expressed his belief that his character, Stu Macher, might still be alive and is open to reprising the role if given the opportunity by the filmmaker.
Scream 7 will be released in United States theaters on February 27, 2026.
