Ginny & Georgia’s Scott Porter reveals actors who were almost Captain America

In a chat show called Watch What Happens Live, Scott Porter – known for his character Mayor Paul Randolph in Ginny & Georgia on Netflix – shared that he was among the last four contenders for the part of Captain America. However, Chris Evans ended up getting the role and gave an outstanding portrayal of a superhero, which is now considered one of the greatest performances ever in the genre.

When Andy Cohen inquired about whether Porter was among the finalists for the role of Captain America, he confirmed, “Indeed, I was one of the final four contenders for Captain America.” To this, he jokingly remarked, “Besides Chris Evans, who else could possibly play Captain America?” Later, Porter admitted, “I wasn’t in the least bit upset, and I even watched every Avengers film. I’m quite a fan, and let me tell you, the guy absolutely nailed it.

According to reports, it’s said that Wilson Bethel and Mike Vogel were the final contenders for the role. Eventually, Bethel landed the part as Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter / Bullseye in Daredevil, a series that initially aired on Netflix and will return in Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+. On the other hand, Mike Vogel is well-recognized for his work in productions such as Cloverfield, The Help, and Under the Dome.

After discovering he didn’t land the role, Porter reminisced about the crushing disappointment he felt, likening it to a powerful “kick in the stomach.” He elaborated, “It was a massive, heart-wrenching, tearful moment. Yes, it was terrible. Because I had let myself believe that those media outlets, with their articles featuring my face on Captain America’s body, were true. I thought, ‘I can do this.’ But then reality set in. ‘Oh no, no. I can’t.’

Significantly, it’s worth mentioning that performers like Jensen Ackles, John Krasinski, and Wyatt Russell were potential candidates for the part. However, it seems they were eliminated from contention earlier during the selection phase.
