As a huge fan of Akshay Kumar, I was excitedly waiting for his latest release, Sarfira. Having followed his career closely for over a decade, I have grown accustomed to his box office successes. However, the initial box office collection of Sarfira on its first Monday, July 15, 2024, left me feeling disappointed and concerned.
The highly anticipated movie, “Sarfira” by Akshay Kumar, based on the successful 2020 Tamil film “Soorarai Pottru,” experienced a noticeable decrease in box office revenue on its first Monday, specifically July 15, 2024. Although it had a strong opening weekend, the film failed to draw crowds during its first weekday and reported the lowest earnings since its premiere.
Sarfira box office collection day 4: How much did Akshay Kumar’s movie earn?
On July 12, 2024, Sarfira, helmed by Sudha Kongara and a remake of the celebrated Tamil film Soorarai Pottru, made its theatrical debut. Featuring Radhika Madan, Paresh Rawal, Seema Biswas, and Suriya in pivotal roles, the movie experienced a rough beginning. The film’s opening-day revenue, which was the lowest in Akshay Kumar’s 15-year career, amounted to approximately $299K. This figure slightly surpassed its recent Monday earnings.
Over the weekend, I noticed some promising signs as a gamer following the game’s financial performance. On Saturday, the box office collection jumped an impressive 70% with a massive intake of $508K. Sunday showed even more progress with a 23.53% increase and earnings totaling $628K. These numbers hinted at a possible comeback. Alas, my excitement was short-lived as the situation didn’t continue to improve.

On Monday, the sales figures for Sarfira at the box office presented a contrasting narrative. Based on preliminary reports from industry monitor Sacnilk, Sarfira brought in just $173K during its fourth day of release. This significant decrease suggested that the film was having difficulty drawing in weekday crowds. At present, the overall earnings for Akshay Kumar’s newest production amount to $1.6 million.
As a gamer, I’d rephrase it like this: On Monday, only around one in ten seats were filled at the cinemas for my game, “Sarfira,” with an overall occupancy rate of 11.63%. In Mumbai, where we had 390 shows running, occupancy was slightly better at 13.50%, but in Delhi and NCR with its massive 525 shows, attendance was even lower at just 11.25%. To add to my game’s challenges, I faced fierce competition from “Indian 2,” which also hit the screens that day. Despite mixed reviews, Indian 2 managed to draw significantly more crowds than Sarfira.
While watching Sarfira’s ongoing cinematic journey, I ponder if it has what it takes to bounce back and enhance its ticket sales, given that it will go head-to-head with Vicky Kaushal’s highly anticipated film Bad Newz hitting theaters this upcoming Friday.
