Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has hinted at her potential involvement in Scream 7. In the second Scream film, she portrayed college student Cici Cooper within the renowned slasher series.
The seventh installment of the Scream franchise will see Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox reappear as Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers, beloved characters from previous films. Interestingly, Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, and David Arquette are making a comeback, set to reenact their roles as Stu Macher, Roman Bridger, and Dewey Riley – despite the fact that these characters were reported dead in Scream (1996), Scream 3 (2000), and Scream (2022). Furthermore, it’s confirmed that Jasmin Savoy Brown as Mindy Meeks-Martin and Mason Gooding as Chad Meeks-Martin from Scream VI will also be part of the upcoming sequel.
Sarah Michelle Gellar talks potential Scream 7 return
In a recent chat with Entertainment Tonight, Gellar shared that she’s long been hoping for an invitation from Scream 7 producers to join the cast. Despite Cici’s apparent demise in the 1997 sequel, she thinks there’s a chance she could bring her character back to life, as three previously deceased characters have already been confirmed to return.
Sarah Michelle Gellar stated, “I’m not part of Scream 7. I made an effort to be included in the film, but no one wanted me. They invited everyone else back. I was hoping for a call, but none came.
She went on to say, “Many characters who perished throughout the Scream series have returned. Names like Skeet Ulrich and Matthew Lillard come to mind. In other words, I’m keeping my fingers crossed, hoping to get a call soon.
In this upcoming seventh installment of the franchise, Kevin Williamson is at the helm as director, having penned the screenplay alongside Guy Busick. The production team consists of Paul Neinstein, William Sherak, and James Vanderbilt. Previously seen characters will be reprising their roles, with Isabel May (known for 1883), Celeste O’Connor (Madame Web), Asa Germann (The Boys: Gen V), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire), Joel McHale (Community), Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect), Mark Consuelos (Riverdale), Ethan Embry (Grace & Frankie), Sam Rechner (The Fabelmans), Michelle Randolph (Landman), and Jimmy Tatro (Theater Camp) joining the cast as new additions.
The movie is currently slated to arrive in theaters on February 27, 2026.
