Santhosh Narayanan recalls telling Aamir Khan he would let Laal Singh Chaddha’s reception decide his career path

The movie titled “Retro,” featuring Suriya as the main character, is planned to hit theaters on May 1, 2025. Prior to its premiere, the film’s composer, Santhosh Narayanan, shared some of his work experiences with Aamir Khan in a chat with Galatta Plus.

As an over-the-moon fan, I can’t help but share my thrilling encounter with the legendary Aamir Khan! He reached out to me personally, inviting me to witness the premiere of Laal Singh Chaddha. Upon watching the film, a sense of awe washed over me. Guess who showed up right after? None other than the charismatic Mr. Khan himself! He inquired about my thoughts on the movie, and at that very moment, I promised him that if this flick became a blockbuster, I would embark on a fresh chapter in my cinematic journey. What an unforgettable experience!

If Laal Singh Chaddha turns out to be successful, I’d consider working on similar movies. But if it fails completely, I’ll choose another direction. This is because I have full faith in Aamir Khan as a filmmaker. Unfortunately, the movie didn’t perform well after its release,” the musician expressed.

Later on, Santhosh Narayanan shared insights about his efforts to investigate and grasp the reasons behind the movie’s failure. He opines that the preferences of moviegoers appear to shift roughly every 5-6 years when it comes to film choices.

He expressed that due to these advancements, artists similar to him must also undergo self-rediscovery. He finished off by stating that this applies equally to Retro now. “I am genuinely thrilled about Retro, for if it resonates, the genre’s future will continue to thrive.

Moving on to the forthcoming movie titled “Retro,” it features Suriya as the main character. This film is an exciting blend of romance and action, skillfully directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The story unfolds around Paarivel Kannan, a young man with roots in a violent environment.

Following his heart’s desire for Rukmini, he chooses to leave behind his old life and embark on a fresh journey with her. Yet, his past persistently re-emerges, hindering him from completely breaking free. The film primarily revolves around whether the man can attain enduring love by overcoming this obstacle.

In addition to Suriya, the movie includes prominent performances by Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, and several other notable artists in significant parts of the story.
