To this day, Vijay Deverakonda‘s groundbreaking film Arjun Reddy continues to be a favorite among viewers. This romantic action movie was helmed by director Sandeep Reddy Vanga during his debut in the industry. Interestingly, you might not know that Vijay wasn’t initially cast for this role; another actor had been originally considered for it.
Was Vijay Deverakonda not the first choice of actor for Arjun Reddy?
Recently, I had the chance to share some insights during an interview, and one topic that came up was missed opportunities in my acting career. Speaking of which, back in 2013, I received a script for a movie titled Arjun Reddy, directly from its director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga – a project that unfortunately didn’t work out for me to be a part of.
He confessed his remorse for not having the opportunity to pursue it earlier because of personal issues. Additionally, Manoj voiced his ambition to collaborate with a skilled director in the future.
According to what he said, Sandeep Reddy Vanga shared a story with me, but unfortunately, I couldn’t collaborate with him because of some personal issues. I truly wish I could have collaborated with him for Arjun Reddy; it would have been wonderful if we had the opportunity to work together.
More about Arjun Reddy
For those not familiar, the movie Arjun Reddy premiered in cinemas back in 2017 and marked the debut of director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. At first, the film faced criticism due to its daring themes like misogyny, promotion of violence, and others.
Ultimately, the movie grew to be recognized as a cult classic within the Telugu film industry over time. It featured Vijay Deverakonda and Shalini Pandey in the main roles, with supporting actors such as Priyadarshi Pulikonda, Rahul Ramakrishna, Jia Sharma, Kanchana, and others.
Arjun Reddy’s remakes so far
In just two years after its initial release, the filmmaker decided to remake his successful movie with a Hindi title, “Kabir Singh.” For this version, Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani were cast as the main characters.
Not only once, but this movie was remade in Tamil on two different occasions. The initial adaptation, named Adithya Varma, hit the screens in the year 2019. This version featured Dhruv Vikram and Banita Sandhu playing the lead roles.
In the same year, a Tamil adaptation titled Varmaa was released, with Dhruv Vikram once more playing the main character. However, the original leading actress was swapped for Megha Chowdhury.
