As a die-hard wrestling fan with years of wrestling lore etched into my memory banks, I must say that the prospect of Samoa Joe facing Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay in AEW is nothing short of electrifying! The former AEW World Champion has already proven his mettle against some of the best in the business, but these two matches could very well be the icing on the cake.
The ex-AEW World Title holder, Samoa Joe, has marked two prominent figures within the company as potential future opponents. Absent from television screens for more than a month, Joe continues to hold ambitions of facing these top stars in upcoming matches.
At the Worlds End pay-per-view, he clinched the AEW World Championship by overpowering MJF. This victory marked his initial significant solo championship in All Elite Wrestling. In his first title defense, he successfully kept the belt against Hook. Later at AEW Revolution, he defended the title against both Hangman Page and Swerve Strickland. As their rivalry progressed, it turned into a personal feud between Joe and Strickland, culminating in Strickland defeating him for the AEW World Championship.
Following their title defeat, Joe joined forces with Hook. Together with Katsuyori Shibata, they defeated The Learning Tree in a three-way contest at Forbidden Door in June 2024. Most recently, Joe squared off against Chris Jericho on the July 10 episode of AEW Dynamite, engaging in a fierce Stampede Street Fight. The battle reached its climax when Big Bill transported Joe onto a forklift pallet, and Jericho crashed through a wall with him, prompting officials to halt the match and attend to Joe’s immediate needs.
After this contest, AEW took Joe off-screen because he was needed for a Twisted Metal TV series shoot. While he was gone, he expressed in an interview about two notable AEW figures he’s excited to square off against in the future.
Who does Samoa Joe want to face in AEW?
Previously crowned AEW World Champion Samoa Joe has battled notable wrestlers such as Chris Jericho, CM Punk, MJF, and Adam Cole. In expressing his future aspirations, Joe mentioned a wish to square off against Kenny Omega and Will Ospreay. During a Terrificon panel discussion, he was queried about which AEW stars remain on his list of desired opponents.
He stated, “I mean, several dudes. We got Kenny Omega coming back, we got Will Ospreay. The list really goes on and on. There are a lot of matchups that are fresh that haven’t been had yet, but those two definitely jump to the top of the list.”
Fans are excitedly anticipating the potential match-ups for Samoa Joe, who’s rumored to make his comeback by October.
