Sally Hawkins’ Psychotic Bring Her Back Character Teased in Haunting Video

Directors Danny and Michael Philippou have spoken candidly about their latest horror thriller, a collaboration with A24, in a fresh video interview. This discussion follows almost two years since the duo earned acclaim for Talk to Me, their first feature film as directors, which remains A24’s most successful horror movie so far.

In the movie, a sibling pair discover a chilling ceremony taking place in the isolated residence of their recently acquired guardian. (This way, it maintains the original meaning but uses slightly different words to make it sound less repetitive.)

Bring Her Back directors describe new horror movie

The video initiates with the Philippou brothers previewing their latest horror venture, emphasizing a more chilling and psychologically intense narrative compared to Talk to Me. They further build excitement by revealing Oscar-nominated Sally Hawkins’ complex, maternal yet psychotic character, hinting at shocking and terrifying sequences to come. Joining Hawkins in this project are Billy Barratt, Stephen Phillips, Sally-Anne Upton, Jonah Wren Phillips, Olga Miller, Mischa Heywood, Liam Damons, Alina Bellchambers, and others.

Directed by Danny and Michael Philippou, Bring Her Back is a film they co-wrote with Bill Hinzman. Samantha Jennings (Cargo) and Kristina Ceyton (The Babadook) are the producers, while Cornel Wilczek handles the score composition. This project represents the latest collaboration between these Australian directors and A24, following the acclaimed and financially successful 2023 supernatural film Talk to Me, which featured Sophie Wilde.

Currently, the Philippou brothers are simultaneously working on a follow-up to their film “Talk to Me,” which they’ve already started scripting while focusing on the original installment. In an earlier interview, they disclosed that they have penned several scenes for the project. For the upcoming movie titled “Talk 2 Me,” the Philippou brothers will continue as directors, with Hinzman also collaborating on the script for the sequel.

The movie arrives in theaters on May 30, 2025.
