Sai Pallavi has quickly become one of the most popular actresses in India’s movie world. Starting with her debut in Premam (2015) and now sharing the screen with Ranbir Kapoor in Ramayana, she’s made great strides over the past decade. As we celebrate her birthday this year, let’s take a moment to reflect on her career and how she’s stayed authentic throughout her journey.
Sai Pallavi on turning down fairness ads
In the past, Sai Pallavi garnered attention when she declined an offer to endorse a skin-lightening cream worth 20 crore rupees. During a conversation with Behindwoods, she disclosed the motivation behind her decision. The actress revealed that her sister, Pooja, had previously grappled with self-doubt regarding her complexion.
She recommended that she should appreciate her inherent charm by regularly consuming fresh produce, suggesting it could help brighten her skin tone. Furthermore, the actress from Thandel emphasized that she didn’t require income from endorsements and felt strongly about acknowledging and valuing diverse, natural skin colors.
Saying NO to short dresses and makeup
In a conversation with Galatta, Sai Pallavi shared the reason behind her choice not to wear short outfits in films. She recounted an instance where she donned a split dress for a tango performance in Georgia, which was approved by her parents. However, when Premam hit the screens, a video of the act became popular. Instead of appreciating her performance, people seemed fixated on her attire, causing her to feel dehumanized and awkward. This experience prompted her to refrain from wearing short dresses in her future film roles.
Discussing her natural style with Pearle Maaney, Pallavi admitted that she seldom takes up glamorous roles in movies. She noted that she usually adds just a touch of eyeliner, even for parts that call for makeup. When queried about sunscreen, she disclosed that she doesn’t use it, but she always dons a bindi instead.
As for her previous performances, the actress from Ramayana noted that she used eyeliner for the characters in Shyam Singha Roy and Fida. Sai Pallavi shared that the intense stage lighting often gives her eyes a smaller appearance, thus using eyeliner enhances their visibility.
Journey from being a doctor to an actor
Previously, Sai Pallavi was engrossed in her medical studies, earning an MBBS degree from the Tbilisi State Medical University in Georgia. Yet, she opted to chase her dreams in the realms of dance and acting rather than continuing down the path of medicine.
As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but marvel at the extraordinary talent that is Nirmal Panicker. Before stealing our hearts as an actress in Premam, she had already made a name for herself on reality shows with her exceptional dance moves. It was her role in Premam that truly skyrocketed her popularity.
