Ryan Reynolds Wants Disney To Make an R-Rated ‘Star Wars’ Project

In an effort to build on the box office triumph of the R-rated Deadpool series, Ryan Reynolds has shared that he proposed the concept of a similarly rated R-Rated Star Wars movie to Disney.

In an episode of the podcast titled The Box Office, Reynolds discussed the concept he presented to Disney: a Star Wars series rated R. He explained, “I proposed, ‘Why don’t we create an adult-oriented Star Wars franchise? It doesn’t have to be centered around heroic characters that are universally loved. There’s a broad spectrum of characters available.'” Reynolds clarified that the R-rating he envisioned wasn’t about explicit content, but rather “a vessel for emotion,” enabling richer, more intricate storytelling.

As a gaming enthusiast, I’ve got to say, while I’m all hyped up about the idea of being in a movie based on this game, Reynolds made it clear he doesn’t see himself as an on-screen character for this project. He thinks it wouldn’t be the right match for him. Instead, he’d rather work his magic behind the scenes, either as a writer or producer. He believes that the franchise, even with its consistent streaming on Disney+, could use a bit of “mystery and intrigue” to really tug at our heartstrings.

Disney has traditionally maintained a family-friendly approach with Star Wars, but the mature series Andor on Disney+ marks their most daring venture so far. Ryan Reynolds’ proposal aims to broaden the storytelling within this galaxy, and while its success is uncertain, it has ignited debates among fans and industry watchers about the possible evolution of the Star Wars universe.
