Ryan Reynolds Says Andrew Garfield Stole the Show in Spider-Man: No Way Home

As a lifelong Marvel fan and someone who has seen more superhero movies than I care to count, the bond between Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield is nothing short of electrifying! The way they interact, their mutual respect, and the admiration they hold for each other’s work is truly heartwarming.

Ryan Reynolds and Andrew Garfield recently sat down for an exclusive chat where they shared some kind words about each other. During their conversation, they discussed their popular movies from 2024, such as Deadpool & Wolverine and We Live in Time. Interestingly, Reynolds didn’t forget to acknowledge the fantastic job done by Andrew Garfield in Spider-Man: No Way Home, featuring Tom Holland.

Andrew Garfield made Ryan Reynolds ‘burst into tears’ in Spider-Man: No Way Home

In “No Way Home,” Andrew Garfield once again took on the character of the Web-Slinger, a role he originally played in the 2010s during the Amazing Spider-Man series. This comeback brought joy to many viewers and left them eager for more screen time.

While some demanded The Amazing Spider-Man 3, others wished to see Garfield take on Venom in The Last Dance. But in Variety’s Actors on Actors special, Reynolds acknowledged his performance in Now Way Home and said that the latter made him ‘burst into tears.’

Here’s the Deadpool actor’s comment, which can be seen around the 38:00 mark in the above video:

“In Spider-Man: No Way Home, I appreciate how you skillfully integrated threads of cultural discourse within the film’s storyline. Your approach was so effective that it moved me to tears.

Following discussions regarding his future as Deadpool within the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Reynolds asserted that Garfield, to some extent, snatched Spider-Man: No Way Home from Tom Holland. He went on to add:

“In all seriousness, you did sort of steal the movie. And if I were Tom, I’d be angry.”

It’s been verified that Tom Holland will reprise his role in Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man 4. Regarding Andrew Garfield, his future as Spider-Man remains uncertain. Some fans hope for a return of Garfield in Avengers: Secret Wars, but there are whispers he might appear even sooner, potentially in Spider-Man 4. However, it’s still unclear if the multiverse will play a role in Spider-Man 4.

The film hits theaters on July 24, 2026.
