In 2021, it was initially hinted that The X-Files might be rebooted when Ryan Coogler and his company, Proximity, agreed on a five-year contract to create TV shows for Disney’s television channels and streaming services.

2023 saw Chris Carter, the brain behind “The X-Files,” announcing plans for a more diverse ensemble in the series. The following year, he expressed his intention to stay absent from the production, yet remained optimistic and supportive of the show’s progress.

First aired in 1993, the TV show “The X-Files” featured David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson portraying FBI Special Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The program revolved around these characters as they probed the mysterious “X-Files,” cases with unexplained paranormal occurrences. Over its run, the series aired 218 episodes across 11 seasons.

Over the course of its run, The X-Files earned the title as the longest-running U.S. science fiction TV series, raking in a grand total of 62 Emmy Award nominations and taking home 16 wins.
