The Russo Brothers have given a glimpse into why they’re coming back to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) by hinting at two upcoming Avengers movies titled “Doomsday” and “Secret Wars.

In an interview with Empire Magazine on Monday, filmmaker Anthony Russo, who is collaborating with his brother Joe on the upcoming movies, revealed that it took some time for him to consider Avengers: Endgame as anything other than the culmination of their Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) journey, following the massive success of the 2019 film, which ranks among the highest-grossing movies ever made.

Over time, he mentioned, there have been discussions with Marvel’s team and thoughts exchanged. However, “it turned out that we accidentally discovered an idea that ignited everyone,” Anthony explained. “It wasn’t something you could predict would happen until it did, and when it did, it was like, ‘This is a tale we must narrate.

At Comic-Con 2024, the Russos officially declared they’d helm the next two Avengers movies. In a stunning turn of events, Robert Downey Jr., who was present, disclosed his intention to rejoin the series, but this time as the antagonist Doctor Doom. This decision comes after Iron Man’s valiant demise in Endgame.

Before delving into the upcoming Avengers movies, Marvel has plans to debut titles such as “Captain America: New World Order” (released on Valentine’s Day), “Thunderbolts” (on May 2nd), and “The Fantastic Four: Initial Footsteps” (on July 25th).
