Even though Star Wars fans haven’t seen a new theatrical release since 2019’s Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, there are ongoing rumors about upcoming projects online. The most recent buzz is about a possible spin-off movie that could be in the works by Lucasfilm, focusing on the origins of the sequel trilogy (Episodes VII-IX).
Star Wars’ sequel trilogy rumored to get a spin-off with mystery character
Based on reports from trusted source Daniel Richtman, it appears that Lucasfilm is considering broadening the universe of the Star Wars sequel trilogy by potentially developing a standalone film.
In his recent Patreon post, Richtman mentioned that Lucasfilm is considering a spin-off movie related to the sequel trilogy, but he didn’t specify which character from episodes seven, eight, and nine would be involved in this project. “The character is yet undefined,” the source explained.
To date, the Star Wars saga has included two standalone films: Rogue One (released in 2016) and Solo: A Star Wars Story (in 2018). At Disney Investor Day 2020, it was confirmed that Lando would be the third standalone film in this enduring science-fiction movie series. Originally conceived as a TV show, the project has evolved into a full-length feature film instead.
The focus has been on Donald Glover’s portrayal of Lando Calrissian, introduced in Solo starring Alden Ehrenreich, but there hasn’t been any encouraging news about this project for nearly two years.
As a diehard Star Wars fan, I’ve been eagerly waiting for any news about the rumored spin-off of the sequel trilogy, but Daniel Richtman’s update doesn’t seem to have shaken Lucasfilm into sharing an official announcement just yet. It’s been seven long years since we last saw Star Wars on the big screen, but 2026 is finally bringing us “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” offering a thrilling return for this iconic franchise.
As a die-hard gamer, I’m thrilled to share that not only am I eagerly awaiting the Pedro Pascal-led Star Wars flick, but I’ve also got my eyes on two more exciting projects in the galaxy far, far away. First up, Shawn Levy’s Star Wars: Starfighter with Ryan Gosling taking the lead role. And lastly, James Mangold’s as yet untitled Star Wars movie – three fantastic adventures that I can hardly wait to immerse myself in!
