As a seasoned gamer and a connoisseur of cyberpunk narratives, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing that Universal is bringing Ruiner to the big screen. Having spent countless hours navigating the gritty streets of Rengkok in the original game, I can only imagine what Wes Ball, with his impressive portfolio of action-packed films, will do with this unique property.
A Ruiner movie is in the works from Universal.
Originating from Reikon Games, the game titled Ruiner first came out in September 2017. This twin-stick shooter is set in the year 2901, depicting a cyberpunk metropolis named Rengkok in a dystopian future.
As a dedicated gamer, I’m drawn to this intriguing narrative where I embody a tenacious protagonist, a man with a twisted psyche, fighting relentlessly against a corrupt system. My ultimate goal? To unveil the truth and rescue my kidnapped brother. Alongside a shadowy hacker mentor, I navigate through a gritty world of intense violence and advanced technology, inch by inch, peeling back layers to expose the city’s ominous secrets concealed beneath its neon-bathed streets.
Excitedly speaking as a dedicated fan, I’m thrilled to share that according to Variety, Universal Pictures has officially secured the rights to transform Ruiner into a full-length motion picture!
As a gaming enthusiast, I can’t hide my excitement about me, Wes Ball, being tapped to direct the Ruiner movie! My portfolio boasts some pretty cool projects like The Maze Runner from 2014, followed by Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials in 2015, and Maze Runner: The Death Cure in 2018. Most recently, I had the privilege of working on Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes, which just dropped on Hulu for streaming. Can’t wait to bring my unique vision to Ruiner!
The ball, for now, is being used to guide the production of a real-life Legend of Zelda movie that will be distributed by both Nintendo and Sony Pictures. As of now, there hasn’t been an announced release date for the film.
What else do we know about Wes Ball and Universal’s Ruiner movie?
Michael Arlen Ross is responsible for writing the screenplay, having previously crafted the script for the forthcoming film titled “Locked,” featuring Bill Skarsgård, Anthony Hopkins, and other notable actors.
The film’s producers are Kelly McCormick and David Leitch from 87North, Dmitri M. Johnson and Mike Goldberg from Story Kitchen, as well as Ball and Joe Hartwick Jr. from Oddball. Timothy I. Stevenson, Dan Jevons, Marek Roefler, Magdalena Tomkowicz, and Jakub Stylinski are the executive producers. Ryan Jones and Jacqueline Garell will manage the project for Universal.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m eagerly waiting to hear about any updates regarding the release of the Ruiner movie adaptation. At the moment, there’s no news on when we can expect to see it hit the big screen.
