As a devoted fan with a penchant for blockbuster movies, the prospect of Robert Downey Jr. starring in “The Hider” based on Julianna Baggott’s short story is simply electrifying! With his stellar performance in Oppenheimer alongside Christopher Nolan, it’s no surprise that Universal Pictures is keen to collaborate with him once more.
As a passionate gamer, I’m thrilled about the news that Universal Pictures is planning a project based on “The Hider,” a captivating short story penned by the renowned author Julianna Baggott. If things go as planned, I might even get to see Robert Downey Jr., a talented actor I’ve admired for his work with the studio in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer (2023), bring this story to life on the big screen!
Robert Downey Jr. likely to star in The Hider based on Julianna Baggott’s short story
After the great success of their last joint project, Oppenheimer, it’s possible that Robert Downey Jr. and Universal Pictures could work together once more, this time on a film adaption of The Hider.
According to Deadline, there are plans for an Avengers: Endgame actor to appear in an upcoming film. The production company has chosen Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari to write the screenplay based on Baggott’s short story.
In the film Oppenheimer, Downey Jr. played the character of Rear Admiral Lewis Strauss, a significant antagonist. His acting skills were highly praised, earning him numerous awards, such as an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor at the 96th Academy Awards. That evening, the movie was nominated for 13 awards and won seven, including Best Picture and Best Director for Nolan. Cillian Murphy also took home the Best Actor award for his portrayal of the title character. The film received a 93% positive rating on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed approximately $976 million worldwide, despite a production budget of just $100 million.
It’s reasonable to think that the studio aims to capture some of the previous project’s success with the new venture, to some extent. The storyline for the Hider remake is rumored to be under initial stages of creation, and the studio has been tight-lipped about its details.
Apart from his acting roles, Robert Downey Jr. is preparing to step into production work, alongside his Team Downey partners Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell. Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold of Safehouse Pictures will also produce the project, with Finneas Scott serving as a co-producer and Baggott acting as an executive producer.
Significantly, Barrer and Ferrari contributed to the scriptwriting of the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Ant-Man and the Wasp (released in 2018). They have also penned screenplays for Die in a Gunfight (slated for release in 2021), No Exit (expected release in 2022), and Transformers One (scheduled for release in 2024).
